What a night!

Only The ITA could have pulled off something like that. It was a leaf out of Alif Laila and only 'seeing was believing' the miracle wrought there.

In an industry riven with rivalries - be it the Channels, Producers or the Stars – who could have imagined in the wildest of dreams that not 10, not 20, but all of 120 Stars & Makers would cluster under one roof and on one platform?

But that's exactly what happened there!
And that roof and that platform was that of The ITA!

The Academy decided to do something out-of-the-box in its 10th year with respect to its crowning glory, The ITA Awards. They hit upon a 'Fashion Ka Jalwa' night with ramp and all!

But it was no everyday, run-of-the-mill Fashion event!

Instead, it had a unique angle to it. It was actually a display window to the variously nominated Stars and Shows of this year's Awards, out of which the winners would come out on the night of the Awards gala at the fag-end of the month!

And they were all there!

You name one – from high-voltage dramas like Balika Vadhu, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Pavitra Rishta, Uttaran, Na Aana Iss Desh Laado, Pratigya, Laagi Tujhse Lagan, Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo, Jhansi Ki Rani, Powder to rip-roaring sitcoms like Tarak Mehta Ko Ooltah Chashmah, FIR, Sajan Re Jhoot Mat Bolo, Lapataganj, Gutur Gu and so on – they all had their respective Stars pitching from them that night.

And this rollercoaster was helmed by Mantra who, as the anchor of the evening, took it to zany planes of delirious fun. The way he made them play the giddy goats with him was simply howlarious.

And the format was unique!

The whole evening was cast in the mould of a Fashion extravaganza. Hence, all the Stars were required to turn up at their dressed-up best, but at the same time, remaining strictly, strictly in the characters they are playing on screen.

That actually opened up the floodgates of a splendorous show, what with the bulk of shows reflecting the traditional couture of Rajasthan, Gujarat and so on these days and thereby having, all through their run, those dazzling drapes, gems & jewels - the works!

To cap it was the windfall of the plethora of characters that come to everybody's home day-in and day-out – and to see all of them there, walking that ramp and whooping slogans for their shows was simply out of the world. Throughout the evening we had wide-mouths and gaping eyes in the audience along with bursts of lusty cheers.

They were the loudest when the gang of 'Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah' stormed the ramp and you saw the entire Gokul Dham Society there - garrulous, giddy and gassy as ever. And they swung and swayed there like wide flowers in wild winds! When the dizzy and dizzying Daya Bhabhi (Disha Wakani) broke into an impromptu Garba with her equally quirky hubby, Jethalal (Dilip Joshi), it sent the audience in raptures. But the others were no less, either and together they created a tsunami of fun on the ramp!

The cast of the silent comedy, Gutur Gu came hushing and shushing everybody and mimed on hilariously with crackpots like Sunil Grower, Bhavna Balsawar etc. tickling the funny bones of all present like nobody's business.

In sheer contrast was the Police pack from Power, who chose to remain stiff-upper-lip, no-nonsense and bottled up like their avatars on screen throughout their appearance. In fact, Mantra tried to melt them with his jolly jibes, but to no avail!

And when Ratan Rajput walked for 'Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo', her high heels became difficult for her to negotiate. She just snapped them off and tossing them in the air, merrily went on with her strut on the ramp barefooted!

The team Balika Vadhu had both the very young Anandi (Avika Gor) & Jaggia (Avinash Mukherjee) of yesterday along with the grown up ones, Shailesh (Vyas) and Pratyusha (Bannerjee) as well. That made Mantra scream, 'Arre, how have past & present become one?' Avinash Mukherjee brimming with his signature boyish bounce gushed, 'Oh, I'm on a song these days! I eat, I snooze and I go for auditions!' And while Avika was here usual chirpy self, Shailesh and Pratyusha just beamed into each other's eyes!

Jhansi Ki Rani's Raja Gangaghar Rao (Sameer Dhamadhikari) came in his complete regalia and Mantra teased him, 'Sir, what if you have to go by a local train?' Rajaji broke into a titter, 'Nothing much! Only I'll have to keep 4-5 Mushtanda's to take care of my heavy drapes!' And Rani Lakshmi Bai (Kritika Singhal) gloated over the horses that she has with cranky names like Chocolate, Bijali, Cadbury and so on!

And while Jai Soni and Shruti Ulfat of 'Sasural Genda Phool' broke into a jig at the ramp, Hina Khan (Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai) gushed about her director, 'Isn't he looking handsome?' A blush rushed to the man's cheeks!

Before the FIR parade, there was a little scene enacted in which Asgar Ali played cards with fellow cops and then inspector Kavita Kaushik stormed in and battered the daylights out of them in a true Haryanvi way. The audience was in stitches!

And when Uttaran's Rashmi Desai was poked by Mantra as to who she thinks is the stone in her way to lift the Glass Lady of The ITA, she signalled to a corner in the audience and shrieked – 'Woh, baithi hai na laal saari mein – woh Hina (Khan)! Bas wohi hai!' Both had a hearty laugh at that, later making a point to stress that they are the beet of friends, actually!

Indeed, that's exactly what epitomised the evening. It had an air and aura of competition - but an undeniably healthy one! That's how the competitors horsed around with one another like one big family.

But halt! Family it was - and how! ...The family of The ITA – wherein the entire TV-fraternity enjoys some of its heartiest moments in unison! The ITA Awards are an annual festival of joy for them to have a whale of a time and let their hair down like there is no tomorrow!

As said Sudesh Berry, 'The ITA Award's is the Maha Kumbh of Television!

And who all will be the chosen ones of this 10th TV Kumbh-
You'd have known by the time it reaches you!

Clapping already…!
