The actress got cold feet when she learned that Milan Luthria's The Dirty Picture with Vidya Balan had a similar storyline.
As Luthria's project is produced by Balaji and Bebo is close to Ekta and Tusshar Kapoor, she got wind of the plot ' both scripts are about a top actress at a low phase of her career.

Kareena and Vidya to play similar roles?
Some movies are more in the news before they are made than after. For months now, there has been talk of Kareena Kapoor playing the lead role in Madhur Bhandarkar's Heroine. While the speculation is still on, sources have it that the plot of Bhandarkar's Heroine is very similar to Milan Luthria's A Dirty Picture that is reportedly based on the life of the Southern actress Silk Smitha.
Our source said, "Heroine is about a top actress going through a low career phase, while A Dirty Picture too is about a sultry actress going through a low phase in her career. While Vidya has agreed to play the lead in A Dirty Picture, Kareena is in two minds whether she wants to do something similar in Heroine."
Kareena got to know about the story line from close friends in Balaji. "Kareena is very good friends with Ekta and Tusshar Kapoor and happened to hear the story of A Dirty Picture. She found the plot of both the movies to be very similar and hence decided to opt out of the project," said our source.
