Imagine TV is all set to bring back its popular serial Kitani Mohabbat Hai for a second season. No, it's not taking off from where the show ended nor is it a sequel. The channel is planning to air a fresh love story, albeit with the same lead pair Karan Kundra and Kritika Kamara. In its first season, this Ekta Kapoor produced show ran for eight months and was a hit with the youth according to Nikhil Madhok, Head, Marketing & Communications, Imagine.
"In its first season it was a finite love story and was meant for a shorter run. When it ended we had lot of viewers writing to us about wanting a season 2, which we are now planning to do," says Nikhil. They are currently working on the script and other details. "The first story started in a hill station and moved to Mumbai, this time it will be different but the setting will remain urban," discloses Nikhil.
Incidentally, Ekta had tried a similar experiment with one of her earlier shows Kutumb, which was aired on Sony. Starring Hiten Tejwani and Gauri Pradhan the serial was popular and once the the first story ended, a new one replaced it immediately, albeit with the same name and actors. Even the character names Pratham and Gauri were retained. Only the story was different.
Recalls Hiten, "In the first Kutumb, I was Pratham Mittal hailing from an extremely rich family while in the second I was shown as Pratham Maan belonging to a middle-class family. However, in both, Gauri and me were shown to be college students." Another serial that had a second season was the popular sitcom Khichdi, which came back as Instant Khichdi with the same cast of Supriya Pathak, Anang Desai, Vandana Pathak, Rajeev Mehta and J D Majethia.
As for Kitani, in its first run, Kitani.. was aired in two slots 8 pm and 10.30 pm and had a combined TRP of 4 plus. This time too it will be aired at primetime though the slot is yet to be decided. Nikhil, however, is expecting the show targetted at the 15 - 24 age group, to garner a good TRP. Says Nikhil, "KMH had a massive fan base and we want to attract that back." The show is slated to launch in the second half of October.
Even their new reality show Rakhi Ka Insaaf, for which entries have been called for, has been planned for a mid-October launch. Meanwhile, this month will see two new fiction shows Gunahon Ka Devta and Babu Aiso Var Dhoondo going on air, though the dates are yet to be finalised. While the former is a story on the lines of Robinhood the latter is about a girl who is unable to find a suitable groom.
As for the third season of Swayamwar in an earlier interview to Screen Sameer Nair, CEO Turner General Entertainment Networks India Pvt. Ltd.,had said they were on the lookout for a suitable personality. Reacting to the controversy generated by the Dimpy-Rahul Mahajan episode of wife- beating, he had said that he was concerned about the pair and hoped they sort out the problems. When asked if it could affect the next season as viewers would react negatively, he had said it was possible. There are reports of the show being shifted to the next year.
