Today is B Day of S D Burman. (1st Oct)

Sachin Tendulkar the iconic cricketer was named after S D Burman.
SDB was born in Bangladesh (now), he was a descendant of a princely family of Tripura.
He took his training under his father who had a solid knowledge of music.
Sachin da started his career as singer, his songs had heavy inspiration from Baul, Bhaitali & other regional folk songs.

There is deep chaaya of folk songs in his compositions. Eventually he moved to Bombay from Bengal in 40s but after making some music felt so disillusioned that wanted to go back to Calcutta. But was stopped by owner of Filmistan studio.

He married his student Meera Devi. It is unfortunate that this lady was later on discovered in old age home of Pune after R D Burman died. There were some differences which Asha ji couldn't sort out perhaps. Meera Devi was later rehabilitated by Govt of Tripura but died soon after.

S D Burman was an eccentric genius who was very candid in his views . He frankly criticized people whom caliber he doubted, one of them was Mukesh the singer, with whom he hardly worked.

His combination with Lata ji ran into trouble in 58-62 during which he teamed with Asha ji and this was a turning point in the career of Asha Bhosle. Who along with support of O P Nayyar rose to dizzying heights while his sister ruled.

S D burman is known for his compositions for Dev Anand * Navniketan films.

Shall start posting songs now, he went into haemorrhagic stroke soon after recording badi sooni sooni with Kishore da and left us.

It is said he was vastly assisted by R D Burman his son when he fell ill, if one listen s to songs of Aradhna, Guide there is unmistakable touch of Pancham's orchestra in the flow of interludes.

May he rest in peace & his soul rise forever, what a genius guy, we will never have another S D Burman ever?!

googly did you know about Meera Devi's last days?

Through a Pancham fan club we were also involved in a possible reconciliation, but didn't work out.
