Chapter 12:
Krishna heard the mesmerizing voice and kept quiet, letting the voice sink in. Prats again said 'hello', when she received no answer, she kept down the receiver cursing the caller for making her get out of her cozy bed; not knowing that the caller was savoring her voice. Prats returned to her room and saw that Aarushi had fallen asleep; she too hurried since she had to reach office on time.
Next day, Krishna stationed himself at 9am in front of the house, not wanting to miss again. He knew that Prats had to reach her office on time. True, Prats came out while Naina kept telling her to be careful, not talk to strangers, cross the road carefully etc etc etc… Prats didn't like this, being treated like a child, but didn't say anything coz it would hurt her mother's feelings.
She walked to the bus stop not knowing that a guy kept following her on his bike. Krishna saw how the bus stop had no shade and the 9'o clock sun troubled Prats. The bus came, it was so overloaded but still Prats had to board it. Some college boys rushed in the bus after Prats. Our hero left his bike at a corner and boarded the speeding bus. The boys were standing behind Pratigya, they signaled each other but before they could do anything, Krishna firmly placed himself behind her and gave them no chance!
Pratigya was nervous enough thinking about her job to notice anything that was taking place around her. She showed her bus pass to the conductor and got down when her stop came, Krishna followed. The conductor stopped him, 'ticket ho gaya?'
'abe saale, janta nahi hum kaun hain?' retorted Krishna
While Krishna made the conductor understand his 'mistake', Prats had reached her office.
The first day she had spent understanding her work with Shraddha, the employee who had just resigned and was supposed to explain Pratigya her work, before she could officially leave. Today was the actual start of her work. She was shown the place where she was to be seated.
Pratigya's job was to test any work/ project before it got delivered to the client. It was an important job and Prats was nervous but also proud for being in such a responsible position. Her seat was next to a guy named Varun. After a brief introduction to the surrounding people, Prats started her work. So engrossed was she that she even forgot about lunch.
It was Varun who asked her whether she had a fast! All the office staff gathered for lunch and Prats noticed that the girls of the office were not that friendly to her, but she didn't mind, it was just the start afterall. Even Pratigya wasn't able to talk to them coz she felt shy in front of all the senior staff even though they were of her age… suddenly a hand reached to her lunch box and fished out 2 of the aaloo paranthas, amused she found the source to be Varun!
'Sorry, but my tiffin center never sends aaloo paranthas and I love homemade paranthas', Varun explained.
Prats: so u r not from this city
Varun: I live in a room and solely depend on my tiffin wali aunti for my food. I'm learning to cook, but the progress isn't good enough!
Prats laughed but she felt bad for him and exchanged her 3rd and last parantha with his roti. Varun tried hard to stop her but couldn't succeed. Even though the roti wasn't very good, but Prats was happy to see Varun eating heartily. Lunch time was over and work resumed.
It was 5:30 and Prats quickly wrapped up her work and rose to leave for home. She had requested the manager to let her leave home early for some days before she would start leaving with the others at 7, she knew how her dadi would have never allowed for such long hours…
Varun saw her leave and enquired, 'hey are u ok? Why r u leaving early?'
P: ah, actually my home is far from here and I have to get the bus to get home, it will be a bit late if I leave at the normal time.. I have the permission of the manager though..
V: oh ok, no problem. C u then tomorrow!
P: bye
Prats looked around and spotted a girl, she remembered her name was Megha, looking at her. 'Bye Megha, c u then…', Prats said.
Megha, 'ok bye take care'. Megha had replied to her in a nice manner. Prats mused that this girl was not bad afterall.
She came out and rushed towards the bus stop, again failing to notice a guy who was waiting outside her office, waiting for her! Krishna, for it was he, followed her; he had left his bike at the adda. He knew there could be a rush in the bus and didn't want the morning scene to be repeated. He was right. Prats somehow managed to get some space to stand amidst the crowd and again Krishna shielded her from any male passenger who dared to come near her!
He decided to 'tell' the conductor of the bus to make a seat available for Prats whenever she boarded the bus. He knew Prats wouldn't take a lift on his bike even if he offered, she didn't even know him! Krishna thought of introducing himself, but before he could muster any courage or think of something, her stop had already come and Krishna was left alone with his thoughts!
He wondered what had happened with him. He had never been so nervous before, well he had never cared for anyone till date, neither had he followed a girl before, maybe this was the reason, he thought.
