Hey guys, I don't know if people have brought this topic up before but I was wondering how many of you are happy with the ways drama's are running in India? I mean they are years and years long. Many time the villain never learns his/her lesson and is let lose to ruin their lives a million and one times. And the hero and heroine don't end up together for too long. I feel like many times they teach us being evil and negative is the best thing because being good only gives you pain.
And then they have couples together for a long time and the next thing u know they are married to some other person. :'( this to me is depressing. what do you all think?

Some of the dramas I have watched are just so predictable because I know what's going to happen and the endings aren't always brilliant because they drag on and on and on which gets boring. I think the storylines are too similar but Laagi Tujhse Lagan is one drama I enjoy watching because it's very interesting and the only drama that I can relate to.

I find Indian dramas illogical.
They start off great with
brand new concept and all. Everyone is enthusiastic of working together. They show great scenes and stuffs.
But after a month or so, they lack all the freshness. They get bored.
TRP is dragged in and they lose it completely. The story is gone haywire. The actors feel compelled to shoot for the drama everyday. Eye-bags are visible, they get bored, their acting takes a big change and so we all end up seeing a crap drama.
The channel then decides to make a big impact on the storyline -
the usual saas-bahu saga or tortures - and the drama gets the TRP that the channel wanted. And since the audience loves torture, it works well on a long term. And then you see shows which are years long with no quality at all.
To be honest, I don't think long term dramas work well without the storyline being ruined. And by long term, I also mean dramas that comes on daily basis. I feel that if Indian serials are shown once a week or even twice, it would work really well with
quality assurance.
Let's take
Baa Bahu Aur Baby as an example, it has quality, morals, and great editing & cinematography. There should be more shows like it. YRF shows were great too.

There are quite few shows that kept their originality for long. Eg. Kareena Kareena, Remix. Just my 2 cents.

I totally agree with everything you have mentioned, especially with the bolded part. Most of these dramas keep running for too long. When patch-up, milna-khushiyo ka waapas lautna sequences take place and there's nothing left to be shown in the story, the creatives bring in the most illogical twists and turns and leaps, just to keep the show going, because they are in no mood to end it. However, when they are questioned by the media as to why they are dragging the drama, they reply "Oh we don't ever drag our shows. We have been given the green signal to continue the story because our creatives and the channel feel that we still have a brilliant story to tell." Unfortunately, when leaps take place, sudden changes pop up which the audience finds very depressing indeed. For example : some couples are seperated and then they get married to another person who they rarely know....and some actors who don't feel optimistic about the new storyline or the changes to their roles, decide to quit once and for all. As a result, a majority of the audience reject the show and say it has lost its charm, while others (who are a minority) who find the remarriage track and the NEW couple interesting, accept the most illogical tracks just for the sake of their new beloved pair. I think a show shouldn't run more than two years. Once all the patch-up and long-lost khushiya, pyar and dosti come back, the creatives should just end the show on a happy note, rather than bringing in illogical twists and turns which not only upset viewers, but also the actors playing main leads. Therefore, end a show even before audience and actors start to show their pessimistic attitude towards the show. It's better to leave a place out of free-will with respect, rather than being kicked out and losing the bachi kuch izzat that people have for you (in this case I am referring to the creatives of dramas, who need to end a show at the right time, rather than stretching it beyond the limit and then allowing the audience and actors to give them the cold shoulder and then being forced to close the show due to EXTREMELY LOW TRPs)

I completely agree with all of you. Dramas should be planned out well in advance. They need to have a pre-determined beginning, a middle and an end even before they go on air. Each show should last for about five or six months max. The dragging is just pathetic. Every show starts off well and boasts of a "unique" concept. A few months later they start losing viewers and resort to lame tactics to boost TRP's.

Indian television today could take pointers from the makers of Taiwanese/Korean shows. Most of their soaps last only for 15 - 20 episodes and cover the entire storyline in a crisp and fast paced manner.
