~ Is blood really thicker than water? ~

This was supposed to be the DOTW which I was supposed to open at the start of this week, but I completely forgot. So, I am posting it as a topic today. 😆

Well the main thing I want to focus on in this topic is the common idiom- 'Blood is thicker than water'. It's quite natural and common for people to choose their family over friends or acquaintances without a second thought. Nowadays families tend to go their separate ways even more often than before.

Shekhar and Bimal were friends for so long, and never did they distinguish between their two families. For them, their families were not two, but one family. For Bimal, Shekhar's kids were his own kids, similarly, for Shekhar, Bimal's kids were his kids.

Yet ultimately for Shekhar his own blood became more important. As we already know, in thinking of Anurag's future, he will decide to send Anurag away. Yet he is failing to see how this would affect Taani's life, who is Anurag's wife. Yes, they are kids, but it doesn't change the fact that they have been joined in a sacred bond.

It took only a moment for Taani to change from Shekhar's daughter to 'yeh ladki'- 'that girl'. Was not this the girl who he had helped raise? Was this girl not his daughter too? Had he not seen her every facet as she was growing up- then how could it be so easy for him to suddenly believe that she has no values? Only because now his son was being affected? Ananya's, his daughter's, word meant so much to him that he did not even feel the need to talk to Taani first. His trust shattered within moments.

On the other hand, let's take a look at Bimal. For him there was no such thing as 'blood' or 'water'. Both he and Laboni put Ananya's happiness before Taani's. They both had decided to tell Shekhar the truth about Ritesh knowing that it may affect Taani's life. Even after being humiliated by Ananya, Bimal thought of her happiness first, even when taking his last breaths.

If we think in terms of reality, yes blood is thicker than water, scientifically it is 😆-for Shekhar it certainly is. For him all that mattered was his reputation and 'his' family. Yes he worked hard for it, which is why he is so adamant to let any harm come to it.

With your family, it is easy to ignore little faults and discrepancies that your family members make, but the same does not always go with friends. It is amazing how one little thing could prove to Shekhar that blood is thicker than water. I fail to comprehend how his viewpoint towards Laboni and Taani could change so drastically- I don't understand how he can even think they are capable of doing such things. True, family cannot be ignored, but neither can your friends, who love you like, and sometimes even more, than a true family would.
I'd love to see what you guys think on this topic.
Love Zahra 😳 x

I agree with the statement that no matter what blood is always thicker than water....people will always support their family

But one thing that bugs me is Shekhar's attitude about it all...I mean he is trusting that Ritesh(kal ka ladka) over someone he knew for 20 something years....it doesnt sit well with me...ha maana ki damad hai par why break a relationship of 20+ years for a relationship that was formed 1 month ago?

this is such an amazing topic! :) i totally agree with you! but you see when you love someone like he loves his daughter..you dont really want to see the possibility of something bad happening to them. also he is the type of person who thinks he's ALWAYS right...(he never really listens to what his son has to say like in todays epi) Like let's say he actually believes his best friend for over 20 years...that would mean that he, SHEKHAR actually made a mistake in choosing a husband for her daughter. Basically he ruined his daughters life. so it is better for him to believe that his son-in-law is right and his best friend is mistaken...because that would mean shekhar made a HUGE mistake. Its kind of hard to admit that you made a mistake...especially when it is about your own daughter. Basically he's blinded by his ego and his love for his daughter (well kind of).

Blood is thicker than water....you know what the sad thing is even if a family member is wrong...you still side with them. I've actually seen this with my friends and my own family. Like if my cousin makes a mistake, her parents will blame the other person or something else other than their daughter. Now if you always end up doing that...the person who you side with will never learn their mistake and do the same stuff over and over again. if Shakhar believed in his best friend, Ananya would have acutally found out what Ritesh was up to and she would have never said those horrible things to Bimal and his wife.

But then again we dont ever go against our blood, because thats kind of our safety net in the world. its different if you go against your friends..you can just make new ones and forget about the old ones. However, you cant really just make new blood family members if you go against your family..unless you have kids..but thats a diffrent story. life truely does become harder if you dont have family that supports you a hundred percent. Just look at Bimal, he considered Shekhar as his own blood and tried to show the truth about Ritesh and he turned his back on him. What happened to him? His relationship with Shekhar's family became bitter and he ended up passing away faster because of that. Ananya is lucky that her dad took her side, becuase if he hadnt she would have been fighting against the world by herself and her fail of a husband.

in the end, if you really want to get away from the saying and prove it wrong..you have to be mentally strong and prepared for the rocky road ahead. there are many people in this world who do choose their friends over their family, like Bimal, but they usually have strong moral and ethical values and are able to see issues without involving blood relations

Yea blood is thicker than water but with Shehkar is that really the case? I mean does he really care about his son or his only concern all the time is "mey logoun ko kiya muh dikhaoun ga"? 🤔 All the time he is just worried about his prestige and name in society and nothing else so i am really not sure if he is doing it for his blood or his repute

But if you think about it- the reputation is about 'his' family, not Bimlendu's. He does not feel that Bimal's family's reputation is his reputation too. It's restricted to his own family. So if he feels Taani is 'unchaste' in some way, it probably wouldn't bother him so much, but if his son makes a mistake it would bother him more. It's natural, he feels he's spent years of hard work buulding up this respect and name in society, and he does not want anything to harm it. Thus he is even willing to keep Anurag away from Taani, and send him away for his future, all in the name of his respect. Does Laboni's family's respect not mean anything then. So yep, I do agree with you Nadia, you're right- but there are points that I have added, which I feel are important too. x

Sensual thread... 👏
Well, many people try to be objective but fail when it comes family or friends...
Sometimes friends are far more better than family but we defiantly ignore to accept it as our family appears to be important to us...
When we lose our friends, nothing would be gone... We can find other ones..
But when a family is gone, everything is gone... Like, image, prestige, supports, etc. (yes, we forget our friends supports and it appears to be nothing as we don't see how much worth it is!)
In my life, friends have their own places and my family has it's own...
It is better not to make them related... Things has to be in its places which is good for both...
In Shekar and Bimel's case, the only mistake they've done I think is, that they had related both the family and friends...
I don't know how many of you go with it, just my POV! 😊
Love,
Nafee.
