It was a very smart elimination on the channel's part. By eliminating Vatsal before Khushboo is able to perform, they get out of any controversy of bringing Khushboo back into the competition.

When they had said she would stay, they thought she would only be out for 1-2 weeks, but as it got longer, they knew that audiences wouldnt be happy with her coming back straight into the top 5. Given that Vatsal has not been consistent in terms of giving very strong performances (for whatever reasons, be it choreography, etc), he was getting less votes than the leaders, they could eliminate him (instead of Ruturaj for example) and it would be justifiable.
