When Reema Kagti narrated a story idea to director Nikhil Advani, she obviously wasn't yet well-versed about the ways of Bollywood. "Yes it is true that I had narrated my love story woven around six couples, to Nikhil Advani. He also had a second round of complete script narration with my dialogue writer Anurag Kashyap. I don't know why he didn't do the film, then," says Kagti, director of Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd.
However, she is aware now that Advani's latest film, Salaam-E-Ishq has a storyline that is uncannily similar to her film. "Nikhil didn't speak to me about his film," says Kagti. "I read about it in the newspapers. His film is also about six couples. However, I am not sure about the rest of the storyline."
We tried to get in touch with Nikhil Advani for his version of the story, but he was unavailable for comment.
Nikhil Advani, had created a sensation with his blockbuster Kal Ho Na Ho three years ago. However, after his much talked-about fallout with producer Karan Johar later, the director was looking for a reputed banner and good story to work on. He met Farhan Akhtar's assistant Reema Kagti while she was working on Lakshya and she narrated the story of six couples to Nikhil Advani. Later on, when nothing materialised with Advani, she went ahead and approached Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar to produce the film. Akhtar liked the story and decided to launch her as a director in Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd. "In hindsight, I am glad that things didn't work out with Nikhil," says Kagti. "I got a break as a director because of his refusal."
Incidentally, Nikhil Advani's film is produced by Mukesh Talreja and Sunil Malchandani, and stars Salman Khan, John Abraham, Vidya Balan, Anil Kapoor, Govinda, Sohail Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Perizaad Zorabian and Juhi Chawla. Apparently, Nikhil wants to finish the shoot of the film and release it during Diwali this year. They have started a 35-day shooting schedule in Mumbai since yesterday.
"Well Advani's team can't make it before Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd, because Reema Kagti's film will be shot in a start-to-finish schedule in Goa," says an industry insider. "They will start the shooting of the film from March 9 and will wind up by April 25. Post-production work will take three months, so the film should hit the theatres much before Salaam-E-Ishq."
Apparently, Advan's film is getting delayed because he is finding it difficult to get combination dates of his big stars and the recent Salman Khan's recent hair transplantion.
