The epicentre of the earthquake was northwest of Ahmedabad and north of Rajkot, both in Gujarat state.

The tremor was felt all over the state and some parts of neighbouring Rajasthan state, witnesses said.

"My whole building shook," a Reuters reporter said. "The floor moved and kitchen utensils shook."

The reporter said the tremor lasted for about a minute and caused panic all over Ahmedabad, Gujarat's main city.

"I can see almost the entire city on the streets," she said. "People are sitting at road crossings and there are traffic jams everywhere." Reports of the tremor also came from Baroda city in the state.

The state's disaster management authority was alerted and police patrolled the streets to maintain calm.

"Until now, no damage to life and property has been reported," state police chief A.K. Bhargava told Reuters.

Ahmedabad: An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale jolted several parts of Gujarat late on Tuesday night.
People rushed out of their homes in panic but there were no immediate reports of injury or damage.

The tremor, with epicentre in the Kutch region of the state, struck at 11:51 p.m., the Met office in Delhi said.

The quake, lasting for nearly a minute, was felt in Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Surat and parts of Saurashtra and many parts of Ahmedabad where several multi-storyed buildings shook under its impact.

REALLY?!?!?!?!?!? My relatives live in gujarat!! i hope they are okay.

I was just checking all news sites.. i saw only varansi blast reports.. nothing about earthquake.. does someone pulling our leg???
