Honestly, I still don't see all the hype surrounding Sreeram. Yeah sure he's an excellent singer, but when I tune into Indian Idol I like rooting for brand new voices that may actually bring something new to the music industry. That's why I was never a fan of past singers like Emon or Prashant, etc. And it's the same reason why I don't especially enjoy Sreeram's performances. Yeah, I can appreciate that he's a good singer, but c'mon is it really something we haven't heard before or heard a million similar voices before? And to be honest, I thought his Lagi Aaj Sawant performance was better than this week's.
My favorite contestant is still Swaroop, even though he's been rather disappointing lately. When we heard him sing one on one with Asha Bhonsle I thought we were in for a great treat, but sadly during the actual performance I think he took her advice a little too much to heart, and really ignored his strengths and softened his voice excessively in certain portions. And contrary to some of the judges comments, I actually enjoyed Shashi's performance this week because it really showcased his capabilities and was definitely one of his better performances.
Both the girls left were some horrid performances, and I skipped the songs midway into each performance. Especially Tia, her singing made me cringe but I honestly can't help but like her because she really milks the whole 'naive, cute, innocent girl' portrayal rather well. It's hard not to feel for her when she gets so much heat for her terrible performances.
Besides that, I thought Rakesh was pretty good as well. The rest of the contestants all had forgettable performances. Rather weak week if you ask me.
