It's always difficult to adjust to a completely new and different environment for a girl post her marriage. It feels as you have been dug out from the soil that has nurtured you all this while to get planted in new ground.
It was the same for me, Akshara , when I transformed from a beti to bahu. Walking out of the comfortable surroundings of my house and leaving the secured world bestowed on me by my parents, I left everything behind to embark on a new journey with someone who is a complete stranger in Naitik.
When I was married off to Naitik, I looked all clueless about how to cope up with the new environment. I was worried about impressing my in-laws and gaining their acceptance, so that I could secure a place in their hearts. Initially, I missed my family and desired to go back to them but Naitik made me feel comfortable and slowly I got acclimatised to the new surroundings. What worked for me was my never-ending love for Naitik's family. Slowly Naitik's parents became my parents and his sisters became my siblings. I found the sisters that I never had in Nandini and Rashmi. They look upto me for advise and it gives me immense pleasure when I'm able to put a smile on their faces.
I think the mantra to my successful marriage is that I have accepted my husband's family with open arms. Every new bride like me should take her husband's family as her own. Quite similar to Akshara, it seems difficult initially but with all the love they were waiting to shower on me , all I did was give them the chance to know that I was ready to be a part of their family and then there was no looking back.
As of now I am busy preparing for Nandini's wedding and praying for her happiness and wish that she is as fortunate a daughter-in-law as me .
