However, after much bargaining, Mona has agreed to shoot for the soap till May-end. This has added to the dismay of her co-stars, and even channel authorities are miffed.
Says Krishna Kohli, who plays Ramona Rastogi, "It's unfortunate that a popular show like Miilee is nearing the finishing line. Personally, I'm shattered and quite depressed after our producer Ramanji confirmed the possibility.
The best thing about the show is that the cast is like a huge family. Mona just happened to tell us one day that she wants to quit — it's her choice and I respect that."
No time for self
Why does Wasu want to leave? "When we started off in April last year, the show was supposed to be a weekly. To cope with its increasing popularity, it was made into a daily. As the protagonist, Mona has to report to the sets every single day of the month. This leaves her with no time for herself. Probably, the stress is getting too much to handle," says Kohli.
Producers deny this
Says co-producer, Radhika Kumar. "There have been talks of an extension, and even if Mona's contract expires, she can always act in the show. We will try our best to retain the show. In fact, Ajay Gehi is joining us again and will be an important part of the track to follow."
Will Mona be replaced? "We cannot replace Mona, as she plays the central character. Getting a new actor to evoke the same reaction from viewers is highly doubtful."
Virasat to enter
Star Plus might replace Miilee with Ravi Chopra's multi-starrer, Virasat. The cast includes Rohit Roy, Amar Upadhaya, Aman Verma, Kiran Kumar, Jayati Bhatia, Sangeeta Ghosh, Sanjit Bedi, Pooja Ghai Rawal.
Says Chopra, "We are figuring out the time slot. Tentatively, it's supposed to go on air at the end of March or April."
