Television was always considered a less attractive medium for film personalities, with many assuming it spelt doom for their careers. But things have changed. TV has become a big industry in itself and film stars are now seen on the idiot box more regularly, either promoting programmes or hosting them.

Salman Khan

He came last November to meet the 12 finalists of Sa Re Ga Ma. Salman, who is usually quiet, was in a completely different mood. He thrilled audiences by dancing to a song from one of his films.

It was the first time the star had participated in a television programme in a big way. "I have never seen such a lively show," he said, leaving the contestants with his best wishes.

Amitabh Bachchan

Never in the history of Indian cinema was an actor's career revived by television. Then, Kaun Banega Crorepati happened, putting Amitabh in the hot seat after a series of setbacks saw his company Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited (ABCL) fail to take off. Even his comeback film in 1997, Mrityudata, had flopped.

On the brink of being written off, then, Bachchan was given a whole new lease of life. And TV wasn't the same again either.

Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra

They may not be the best of friends but, when it comes to do commercials, they can manage just fine.

The duo did a commercial for Pepsi together last year and also graced an episode of Indian Idol Part 2 on Sony TV. Priyanka was a judge on Indian Idol 1, but came with Kareena this time around.

Manoj Bajpai

Way back in 2000, Zee Television was completely taken aback when Star launched KBC. When Zee's TRPs began falling, they launched Sawal Dus Crore Ka with Anupam Kher and Manisha Koirala. The programme bombed. Sony Television roped in Chotte Miyan Govinda to anchor Chappar Phar Ke, but that too failed to affect KBC's popularity.

Now, Zee is back with a game show called Kam Ya Zyada, with Manoj Bajpai, who has seen his career wither away lately. The show is simple and crisp, and we hope it revives the fortunes of this brilliant actor.
