Who chooses the songs?

Can anyone tell how the contestant chooses the song. Is it chosen by lots or does the contestant just sing what he wants or do they give them a list and the contestant has to sing from that list?

Thanks, Connie. I asked because someone wrote the theme is block bluster movie songs and of ALL THE HUNDRED MILLION blockbloster songs in Hindi Films, Meenal had to go and choose 'Hum dil de chuke sanam' 🤢 🤢 🤢 🤢 She'll need a MIRACLE not to be in the bottom 3. 😡

If there is a list given, are girls given any chance to choose girl songs? 'cause meenal chose a male song last time.
