Deepu tells Jyoti that this time, she's not going to do anything. He tells her that to this day, he had been unable to do anything for any of his sisters, but now that he has a job, he wants to take all the responsibilities for arranging Sushi's wedding. Jyoti agrees, but wants to contribute her share - taking an advance from the dance class. Deepu stops her and tells her that she's not taking any advances or anything: she'll have to work extra hard later to pay that off. He reminds her that from the start, she had been managing all responsibilities of the household, and now, it's time for her to let him do it, while she takes the much needed rest.
Jyoti tells him that doing things for one's own family ain't sacrifice - one derives joy out of it. The reward is the entire family sharing in all the joys & sorrows. Deepu disagrees, and points out that they did nothing for her. He tells her that when they were in hospital, that they feared they had lost her, and he doesn't want a repeat of that experience. Jyoti protests that Deepu isn't going to allow her to dance, but Deepu tells her that once she is better, she's at liberty to dance, but she should not do it to fulfill any responsibilities. 👏👏 Jyoti smiles proudly @ him, and remarks that her little bro has grown bigger than her.
At the academy, Kabir finds out that Jyoti is not coming, and wonders why. Bhagya-da tells him that Sandeep had called and said that Jyoti cannot dance, for now. Bhagya-da tells him that he too is concerned, since dance wasn't merely an income source for Jyoti, but her very life. Kabir tells him that he knows, and that he won't allow her to be separated from her dance.
Next morning, Deepu knocks on Jyoti's door - she was late to wake up (so she's obeying the order to rest pretty well 😉😆) She apologizes to Deepu, but he tells her that she's doing what he told her - rested 😆 She tells Deepu that they have to do the Ganesh puja, mehendi, etc, and Deepu tells her that it's all done! All she has to do is go outside and be present, but not the way she is. He gives her a sari, and tells her that she's wearing that today!!! He bought it specifically for that purpose. Jyoti hesitates, but Deepu tells her that their parents approved this, and today, that's what she's wearing.
Sushma is leading the Ganesh puja. The bell rings, and 2 of Deepu's friends bring flowers & mithais. Jyoti offers to put them away, but Deepu stops her and orders her that she's not doing anything. Just then, Kabir arrives and weighs in on Deepu's side, and Deepu welcomes him, and asks him to join them. He asks Kabir & Jyoti to chat, while he puts away the stuff.
Kabir apologizes to Jyoti, and she asks for what? He tells her that he found out that she's left the academy, and he concluded that it must be b'cos of him, and so he's sorry 😆😆 Jyoti is amused, and tells him that it wasn't anything he did. Padma welcomes Kabir, and tells him that they are indebted to him. KK comes there and reminds Padma jokingly that Kabir doesn't like thank-yous. He tells Kabir that he's restored happiness to his daughter's life. Padma asks Jyoti to offer him something, but Kabir tells her that he's no stranger to their place - they're like his family. He offers to volunteer his services for anything they need, and Padma tells him that everything is done, so to just enjoy. They leave, and Dadi calls Jyoti.
In her room, Poonam is going over the accounts, and Deepu enters and heads for the wardrobe. Poonam asks him what he's doing, and he tells her that he was paying the sweets guy. Poonam angrily gets the papers w/ the numbers and shows him some numbers - Jyoti's hospital bill Rs3800, her meds Rs1200, Jyoti's & Sushma's clothes Rs3200... She asks him what was the need of such an elaborate wedding? Deepu says that it was his responsibility towards them and reminds her that when they got married, it was Jyoti who footed the bulk of the bill. Poonam tells him that they can see the results of this (so Poonam, would you have settled for, say, just a registration marriage? If yes, you are right - your family does do much of their stuff on emotional, rather than practical grounds.) Everyday, there was some bill-collector at their door to collect one debt or another (Are these debts all clear by now?) She asks him to rein in the expenses, since he's taken over all the responsibilities, and there is still a complete part of the ceremony still left. Deepu tells her that this is his duty. She tells him that after forcing Jyoti to quit, he's taken everything on his shoulders, and who knows that the expenses will be? She asks him whether he's thought about where he'll be getting all this - will he be taking advance from her dad? (All this while, she was all too critical of him for not wanting to touch her dad's money, and now, what's this makeover?) Deepu tells her that it'll be from the company, not from her dad, and he had made it clear to them that he'd be working as a normal employee. Yet if she thinks that he got this job solely due to his relationship w/ her dad, he'd quit! He leaves the room, and Poonam looks thoughtful. (Dear, you're better off not pissing him off on this occasion)
Elsewhere, Jyoti, Padma & Dadi are all applying the haldi on Sushma. Poonam is negotiating the caterer costs over the phone, threatening to take their business elsewhere if they didn't cap @ Rs150/plate, when Jyoti notices that Poonam is missing from the haldi ceremony. Padma calls her, and Poonam tells her mom, who's also present, about how outrageously the caterers were charging. Two of the neighbors remark on how much it must all have cost, and that containing the costs are the job of the women (I always thought it was the job of the men - the women are the ones maximizing the costs 😈😆) They add that w/ Jyoti's hospital costs, the family must be under a lot of stress, but Padma disagrees, and tells them that thanks to god, Jyoti and her baby are both well, and everything is fine. The women continue that they are acting like nobody knows how Jyoti's sasural has behaved w/ her. Padma asks Poonam to apply the haldi on Sushma, and Poonam goes ahead.
That night, @ the Vashisth home, Pankaj is closing the windows, and Neelam enters. She requests him to join her downstairs, since some of her friends haven't yet seen him. Pankaj tells her that he'll come in a little while. Neelam leaves. Pankaj moves towards his cupboard, takes out a jacket and knocks a vase, shattering it. Since he is barefoot, he is furious and shouts @ Neelam that he's told her not to put breakable stuff in his room. Neelam hears him, and then just turns and leaves, ignoring him altogether 😆👏 (Yeah, this is just the wife and treatment he deserves. Had this been Jyoti, CM would have been on hand to blast her, but this time, Neelam seems to have gotten away w/ it) A servant hears him and enters, and warns him not to step forward, and let him clear the shrapnel. Pankaj asks where Neelam is, and is told that she just stepped out. He asks the servant that while he (the servant) heard him, Neelam (left)? The servant tells him that he'll get the broom and sweep this mess.
Pankaj tosses his jacket, and gets a flashback of Jyoti when she arranged their honeymoon room, describing to him in detail what was where, so that he'd not have any accidents. (Too bad you could never explain to CM how valuable that was) He also recalls her telling him that there was nothing breakable in the room. Pankaj wonders whether he had misunderstood Jyoti (Too late now - don't even think of ever reaching out to her!!! 😡)
The mehendi ceremony is going on - Jyoti and another woman are applying it on Sushma. The other woman offers to do it for Jyoti, who hesitates, but Sushma insists and so she agrees. While it's being drawn, Jyoti gets more worthless flashbacks of Pankaj feeling her mehendi. Dadi asks Padma to put it on as well.
Jyoti & Sushma are enjoying the proceedings, while Padma & Dadi are dancing. While they are dancing, Kabir comes there, and Dadi forces him to join them (that's what they call payback 😉😆) Kabir dances some, but quickly escapes and finds and joins Jyoti.
Jyoti asks him whether he's from the bride's side or the groom's? Kabir picks bride's. 😆 He tells her that he can't go anywhere leaving her behind. Jyoti looks @ him puzzled, and he tells her that as a great dancer, she ought to be dancing @ her sister's wedding. Deepu intervenes & tells Kabir that she has been told to rest, and so she'll enjoy the proceedings from the audience. (Yeah, Jyoti danced enough in godh bharai to cover both that and the wedding)
Kabir asks Jyoti why she quit the academy, and she tells him that it was on the orders of Deepu. She says that from now on, he'll handle all responsibilities, so her need to work is over 👏👏 Deepu smiles @ them, & Kabir concedes the point. Jyoti tells him that she is free, independent and relaxed. Kabir asks her whether it means she's never going to dance again? Jyoti denies it, telling him that she can never quit dancing. Once she's better, she'd resume. Padma comes there and drags Deepu to the dance.
Kabir, looking for an opening, asks her to clarify about her statement about being free. He asks her whether she's thought about her future. Jyoti tells him that she never thinks of the future, only the present. (A good philosophy to have, except for the fact that the reason Jyoti rarely thinks of her future is that she's too busy thinking of others' future, and also that she's always in crisis management mode, which rarely allow for such a 'luxury'.) If she's happy in the present, she's happy in the future. Her family is one such source of her happiness.
Kabir suggests that the almighty might have planned something for her, which she's not even thought of. What about it? Jyoti looks @ him puzzled. (It was unclear whether she guessed that he was trying to propose to her - I think she might have)
Great episode. The first completely happy episode that I recall seeing in Jyoti. Only negative was Poonam's tantrum, but good for Deepu - he read her the riot act, and so now she has to manage everything within what's agreed upon.
Deepu was the star of the day, and it showed in the way Jyoti just had to relax, and be in a bindaas mode. For the first time I can recall, she looked unreservedly happy. I'm glad Deepu put the kabash on her doing anything - to date, she's always been the one doing all the running around, and she deserved this rest even if she had not been pregnant.
The Neelam scene was great again - I loved how Neelam just ignored Pankaj and left. He's left wondering about whether he's been fair to Jyoti, but I hope CM keeps him away from her. One thing notable - Sudha was absent today, and seems to be forgotten: unlike in Deepu's wedding, where Jyoti stayed away so that Sudha could attend, today, Sudha was completely absent. I'd think that Bhairavi would be dead set against anyone in the family going to a function that prominently features Brij, such as in a role such as the groom (incidentally, where was he today, and if Kabir is going to be in the bridal party, then who does Brij have? His friend Ravi?)
I hope Kabir proposes tomorrow, after finding out that Jyoti is pregnant, but deciding to go ahead anyway. I hope he nabs her b4 Pankaj decides that he wants her back.
Episode rating: 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Pluses: Deepu taking over full responsibility of the household, making Jyoti go on leave and also forcing her to relax and not lift a finger. Also, Deepu reading Poonam the riot act.
Minuses: Poonam's attempt to dampen Deepu's spirit
