Has anyone seen the new show Geet Hui Sabse Parayi? It is about an innocent naive girl who somewhat willingly marries an NRI her parents and grandfather hurriedly choose out for her and then finds herself abandoned in the airport the next day by her so called husband. She and her family then find out that the whole wedding was a fake (the Pundit was fake) and the man (Dev) married her for her money and property, and now that he has it, he has no need for her. Not only that, he was previous already married and his first wife assisted him with the whole plan in duping Geet and her family. Now both Dev and Naintara (his wife) have run away with Geet's jewelry, and money. The rest of the show is about how Geet fights for her innocence and truth and proves to everyone that she can get back everything she lost and how she is not at fault for what Dev did.
It's actually a pretty good serial....but I was wary about the fact whether shows and movies like this make it seem like all NRI marriages are bad? Does it show NRS in a bad light or does it simply serve as a warning to those families who rush into such marriages without checking into the background of the groom's family?

NRIs can be bad too ... just like any local Indian...

Serials like to dramatize things ... its the way to earn more cash ... sow something dramatic ... the Geet story (as you described) seems preety dramatic...

.... But coming to NRI marriages back in India ... then its a whole different story. I feel it shouldnt be so compulsory as many families make it. I know some of my friends who parents are way too critical about it.

An NRI, who spent so many years of his life (specially if his youth) abroad, may have had relationships/different upbringing/different tastes than an Indian girl back home. Not to mention that most parents usually look for a very "homely" girl ... sanskaari.

Its a huge topic ... but then interested minds in here for it? .. I wonder.

@SholaJoBhadkey:

I am aware of such a case (not the abandonment, but similar ...). Indian parents ... when they force their unwilling son's (specially) to remarkable extents ... then it destroys many lives.

I would like to assert that NRI parents and the Indian parents are to blame ... both sides.

The Indian girl's parent must make sure about the boy ... as its usually an arranged marriage ... its the responsibility of the parent then to make sure.

The NRI boys parent must make sure that the boy is not in a relationship with a girl from the country where he lives. It is very much possible for the boy to be in a relationship - and sometimes these relationships are remarkably intense.

It is a very naive thought that "Mera vansh bachana hoga ... hindustaani lardki chahiye ... " Even if it comes at the price of a Hindustaani lardki's MAAN, SAMMAAN, FUTURE, WHOLE LIFE...

Plus, not to mention the effect on the boy, or the girl (the girl he is in relationship in his country - i.e. a non-indian girl) ... extending to more people ... future children .. generations... WHAT NOT!

The boy should also be responsible nonetheless.

As for Indian NRI girls ... their problems are different in nature usually.

Wow, that was really shocking, never knew about it.😲
Yes, this serial is unique in a way that it is based on real life incidents, and though it sometimes drags the story like any other serial, it is interesting in that it portrays the negative side of some NRI marriages.
One of my cousins had an NRI marriage, and she and her hubby are living happily in Germany. I have heard of many NRI marriages which became successful because parents from both sides were careful and took care, but only recently have I heard of such cases. It is why I am drawn to this show Geet....I am interested to see where the creatives take the story, and whether they'll end it realistically or dramatically.

So far, the show isn't really unrealistic or dramatic, except for the Visa/Passport part, where it seemed like the creatives hurried things to move the show along, but other than that, the whole abandonment part was taken well and seemed realistic to me.
But who knows? Every serial likes to compete with the other shows for TRPs, so I'm wary how long Geet will go being such a good interesting show before it becomes melodramatic, hope it doesn't though. It's the only show I watch on TV now....used to watch Pratigya but it got boring and melodramatic for me.😔

Its true that desi parents use do different type of emotional blackmail to corner their children or force a marriage decision through emotions...its wrong...I think parents should wait till they are ready for marriage...give time ,space and a chance....now a days kids are mature enough to find the suitable guys/girls..

Children were mature enough to find guys/girls back in the olden day too. The maturity of children is not the question, maturity wise they were the same back then as they are now, so the question of arranged marriages in general is not the topic here. My topic is, whether this serial shows all NRI marriages in a bad light or simply serving as a warning.
Anyhow, please do not generalize all desi parent. It would be nicer if you add 'some' desi parents in the beginning of your post, because there are tons of decent ones, more than half actually, who do not force marriages upon their children.😊

When I call someone DESI all I mean is they are from INDIA. To me any INDIAN out of INDIA is a desi. He/She may be living in any other part of the world. When I mean DESI its just states the country of origin👍🏼
