what song is this ???....Never heard it before...She is one of my favorite singers ..This song hasn't done an iota of justice to the singer of her calibre....The singing seemed repetetious and didn't create any impression ..neither does it has repeat value for me....But she is completely in sur and did her part well ...whatever little this song demanded...........

^^^^^^^I share your thoughts...I have never heard this song b4...I love KKS's voice...Although this softer number but why is she singing this song ?? She shoudl be singing her calibre songs... Highest I can give her is 6.75 in this song...really did not care much for the song...sorrry folks.

I remember hearing this song few years ago and I thought wow 'Kavitaji is back!' It is Sonu's song all the way - Kavita has so few lines!

I do agree, her accent could have been better. And her voice is not as thin as it used to be. It's still an awesome rendition in my eyes and in this song too, you can hear why veterans like her are in a class of their own.

Re-listen to the way she sings

'Mainu hoya pyaar baliye, (ends baliye on a harkat)
Pehli pehli baar baliya (this time baliye in a Punjabi/bhangra style, sort of like baliye-hey!)
Dil vich aaja aaja (lengthens the aaja, and her voice swells to make it super romantic)
Ban ke karaar baliye' (again baliye-hey!)

And the way she sang 'Jannata ve jannataaaa' - what a crisp, clear vibrato-less note! Even Sonu couldn't sing it as smoothly as her!

Overall, a classy performance with great harkats, a few high notes and, as always, the signature Kavita-style nuances. I'm torn between a 7 and an 8!

Give it a 7! This does not deserve an 8. Especially if you are giving Shreya a 7.

This singing was more difficult and nuanced than Shreya's though! So confused... It deserves more than Shreya, buy 8 is too much! We should be allowed to give decimal scores!

xobile, I know you don't value voice quality as much....but it's the most important for singing. And Shreya Ghosal's voice quality right now (In Zoobi Doobi) is well ahead of out of prime Kavita (2008). It's not even close. That alone should do enough.

^^ Yh I don't think voice quality is of main importance. It certainly helps a singer - that's why Shreya has won soo many fans after all. Objectively, her song Zoobi Doobi is plain and simple with a few techniques here and there. But her voice quality props it up to a 7.

Kavita doesn't have a thin or young voice like Shreya, but who said the definition of good voice is 'young and thin'. Kavita's voice can swell, ebb and flow better than Shreya's because of it's layers. It remains a mike quality voice that retains its tonality over a large range...

BUT I have to be stingy with my eights. Can't give it here. So I'll cave in and give Kavita a 7...
