"Wahi to main keh raha hoon Riddhima, bas karo!".
Sid has had enough of presuming and assuming, assuming to his detriment only because he really doesn't believe that Riddhima would willingly hold his hand towards a bright tomorrow in their married life. We can blame him for assuming inaccurately but again his intention wasn't wrong. We witness how adverse Sid's logic was to his decisions, but for Sid, he probably felt as if he wasn't leaving any stone unturned to do what he thought was best. Here, it was his own self doubt that reduced any chances of a smooth resolution with Riddhima from the very moment he decided that he would arrange the rendezvous in Pune.
Today he looks at Riddhima, tired from having to assume what she wants because she wouldn't spell it out. Literally. I want you Sid. I do not want Armaan. That's all that it would have taken. For someone like Sid who had always felt inferior to Armaan and Riddhima's love, that's what it would have taken for him to set his record straight. With Riddhima's meek responses and indecisiveness, Sid had to take the reigns in his own hands.
He clarifies to Riddhima, "main tumhare jhoot ko umeed samaj kar bheta raha".
Sid had always thought, up until the point that the divorce papers were signed, that because Riddhima had not made any move to severe the relationship they shared, he still had a chance to make things right. Not all had been lost. It was when she signed the papers that his confidence swayed yet again, this time taking a toll for the worst and he hit rock bottom, illustrated by the terrace scene after he found out; screaming, lashing out at the plant pots, a shattered broken man...who had lost hope...the last flame diminishing before his very eyes. Feeling rejected and isolated...
Riddhima snaps in angst, "Armaan ko beech mein mat lao".
Riddhima had never thought about Armaan, specifically, she had never allowed Armaan to be a reason for her and Sid's misunderstandings, for him to be a part of her life again...not when she had left her past so far behind. The reason why Armaan did infact become the basis of their problems is because Sid advocated it. She had repeatedly told Sid, trying to get him to understand that it was never about Armaan, yet she failed to make her point effectively. For her, It was Sid who presumed that she would want Armaan, it was Sid who repeatedly made the same mistake Armaan did, and presume what she wanted, it was Sid who sent the divorce papers thus it was Sid who wanted the divorce.
Armaan never came into it, so why bring him in today?
Sid replies, "agar tumhare dil mein mere liye kuch bhi hota na, to tum wo divorce papers par khabie nahi sign karti"...
If we recall, the reason why Riddhima had signed the papers was again, because she thought Sid wanted it. She is right in saying that Sid sent the papers, and she never was going to sign them...up until that point that Sid acted as the driving force, holding down tightly on two magnets both on the same side, forcing and compelling them to connect with one another.
But that never happens...instead, and infact, they repel.
Riddhima in a fit of rage signed the papers, if you're so eager to get rid of me, then who am I to hold you back? She never once thought about her own feelings, she simply thought about Sid.
A little more time and it would have been obvious that neither of them want the divorce, it would be obvious that they wanted to stay together....but these insecurities and doubts....uff!
Armaan intervention is uncalled for, but his state of mind at the minute is protective over Riddhima, but Armaan knows Riddhima for long enough to realise that she never lies....especially not in the situation they find themselves in now. But Sid and Riddhima's relationship has always been built upon insecurities and doubt and generaly unawareness of one another. From meeting at the airport, they were married within four months and that too in circumstances which required them to be weary of each other. From Sid being a molestor, Riddhima was accused of being a fake...and that is the repition today, Sid's view of Riddhima had only just started changing on their honeymoon (i.e. the mandir scene) and Armaan returned filling his mind with those preconceived notions.
Sid is angry, with himself most for believing and hoping. And that frustration he vents out on Armaan and Riddhima, impulsively saying things which are coming into his mind, the fact that Riddhima played him like a toy, with his emotions and his life, the fact that Armaan and Riddhima crossed all limits, today in each other's arms and tomorrow??... He is hating himself and his accusations are proof just how much he burns within.
Its not as if Riddhima remembers that she forgot to inform Sid about her trip to Lonavla, its not Riddhima's fault she wasn't present when Sister Stella maliciously and falsely told Sid that she had gone to see Armaan. So when Riddhima hears these accusations, she is in shock, Sid doesn't believe her justification, but what had she done to lose that trust?
Riddhima ka dil, ek khilona, Armaan threw it away and it was caught by Sid, who passed it back to Armaan, to and fro, he dropped it, it broke.
Sid ka dil ek khilona, Tamana laughed at him when he showed it to her and walked away. He passed it onto Riddhima when he felt she would leave his house and go, he felt it break when Armaan came back, Riddhima stitched it back together when she agreed to give their relationship another chance, it broke when he saw her in Armaan's arms.
Armaan ka dil ek khilona, it crushed when he found out about his mental instability, it was pumped back to life at the sight of Riddhima and the love he felt for her, it broke when he found out she was married, Sid revived it when he told Armaan that Riddhima was still his alone, it broke when Riddhima told him to forget her.
