Rajeev Khandelwal better known as Sujal will make his film debut in first-time director P.D. Gupta's Goa to London |
After a stint in television and attempts to exorcise his Sujal tag, Bollywood has finally beckoned. However, Khandelwal will debut with a relatively new production house, Sujata Films (of Umar fame) and first-time director P.D. Gupta. The film called Goa to London is a romantic comedy. Confirming the news, Gupta said, "We have signed Rajeev and the film will go on the floors in the second week of February." The film stays loyal to the boy meets girl (from London) plot. The film traces the hero's pursuit of his love to London. "I would not like to reveal too much as the film is in its nascent stages. We are in the process of finalising the female lead which will be done in about a week's time," he says.
How did Khandelwal land the role? "Rajeev is a very good actor. We were familiar with his work and knew him personally too. When we contacted him he loved the story. Contrary to his image of being very choosy he was very easy to convince. We thought he fit the bill perfectly and instead of taking a complete stranger, we thought of launching Rajeev instead? The film shows him as a college hero. He also has a certain appeal which audiences liked when he played Sujal. To top it all, there is a certain amount of curiosity about what he is doing these days among viewers. The project will be beneficial to both of us," says Gupta.
The story and screenplay has been written by Gupta himself, the dialogues are the work of Kamlesh Pandey and Milind Ukey is the creative director. The rest of the technical details remain to be finalised.
When contacted, Khandelwal refused to comment. "I will be ready to talk in a week's time," is all that he wished to say.
