Assam vs UP in 'Challenge 2005'
Monday, February 20, 2006 20:16 IST
Number game
Contestant Vinit Singh from UP says that though he is confident about his singing, he is wary about the voting. "Debojit is getting a lot of support from Assam. He is always ahead of me. I may lose out in the finals," he confesses. Contrarily, Debojit dismisses the number game. He says, "I can't be the voice of India with only the votes from Assam. The entire nation has to vote for me. I have come here to perform and I will ensure my best."
SMS vs talent
While most feel that it's talent which counts, some believe that it's the janta's verdict that finally matters. Debojit agrees, "You cannot ignore public opinion. It decides whether a song or a film is a hit or flop." Vinit however feels, "We will ultimately get into playback singing and stay behind the camera. We are not going to be part of such shows again. So the votes don't matter."
Fan frenzy
The boys have been traveling constantly. Vinit recalls girls storming into the green room in Delhi and showering him with kisses. Debojit says, "I was touched when a 5-year-old girl from Andheri called me and said 'Debu mamma I want you to win'."
Bollywood calling
Vinit has already signed Bollywood projects. "I have sung for 'Rocky' with Sunidhi Chauhan and also for Mimo's (Mithun Chakraborthy's son) film." Debojit has got offers to sing for regional albums in Assam. Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has also promised him a chance to sing in his next film.
USP
Vinit's strength lies "in the complete control" of his voice. While Debojit vouches, "My simplicity will sail me through."
