But.. for me, even if my folks do not give me that look.. I feel awkward and shameful!! They're all IN the country and culture while I'm not(cannot)... inspite of living physically here.. 😕 I just can't help it since I'm like soo habituated to it.. all my friends also find it hard to slip into all that culture..

Dont worry Angel, that will all change soon, since more and more exposure are there today for even remote villages in India... When they start to see more and more youngsters in such outfits, it will become a regular thing and no one will bother anymore... We just have to be patient, but I feel that those days are not very far... 😃 I also used to feel awkward at first, then I realized that as long as I feel comfortable about myself, I should just follow my heart... 🤗

Ankit, first of all nice post 👍🏼 ... I too want to see a lot of Indian classical dances, which I must say have been shown on DID but to a very smaller extent. Thanks to Tashu and Kruti we got to see some wonderful art work. And that is called pure classical form. I guess the insertion of Bollywood moves and its remix have probably contaminated the dance forms. My teacher gets so mad when they mix classical dance and hip hop moves in one song. Also like H4L mentioned, many youngsters lovvveee the hip hop, punk rock style, not just dressing wise but also in dancing. It is usually associated and seen as being cool in that age. Hence many try to fit in that bracket by getting classes in these art forms than the our own. There is nothing wrong in learning but I think we shud encourage our own culture rather than promoting other dance forms. I do love ballet, contemporary, latin, break and kind of dances...but I do agree that they have been given importance in some shows..But DID also has to be credited to get such styles to a wider audience in India. Till now we have seen more street style of dance forms and not western classicals. I think the problem lies in what we as individuals think and perceive our culture. I have seen my neighbors kids being put in Shiamak Davar classes just cos that is the trend nowadays and when I told them why not a pure classical dance form? They see it as old and out fashioned. This the truth I guess, at least in the bigger cities.
