| Want to sign up for a dance class this summer but are too afraid that your two left feet will draw all the wrong kind of attention? Well there's a summer camp in town that won't discriminate against people like you. The Mumbai Mirror Dance Camp with choreographer Terrence Lewis, which kicks off on April 26, follows the motto: you are allowed to make as many mistakes as you want. Even better, if you are one of those who suffers stage fright, you will not even be forced to participate in the season-end stage show. Don't worry if you don't think your body matches the latest fashionable size. Just hit the dance floor and have fun. Lewis says the hour-long classes will be held thrice a week at various locations across the city and there are no bars on who can join. "You might even see the CEO of a company being paired with the peon at the same office," he said, adding that students will be allowed to choose from a variety of dance techniques such as contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, salsa and Bollywood. Lewis added that he will visit each one of the 15 centres in the city to monitor the progress of the students. "Dance must be learnt correctly… Some of my students from a TV show, like Shakti Mohan, will also visit the centres to share their own tricks of the trade."
When asked about his oldest student, he said, "There's a 62-year-old housewife who signs up for a different centre every year. Last year, she went all the way to Thane!" The month-long camp will culminate in a grand finale at Bandra's St Andrew's Auditorium, where student teams will compete against each other. "Quite like the Blue House vs Red House back in school, this finale will see the Bandra batch compete against those from Andheri, Churchgate etc… Trust me, the excitement wouldn't be anything short of an India-Pakistan match!" Registration is on April 18. Call 26040144 or 26238651 for more details. |
