Rang Badalti Odhani is non-traditional and inspiring stories of young women, who have the ability to script their own destinies by defying conventions.

Set in the village of Dhulwadi in Bhuj, Gujarat, the story unwinds with the marriage plans of the bubbly Khanak with her childhood lover Suraj, who works in the new factory that is to come up in the village.

Shantanu, son of the factory owner Mr Khandelwal, an urban bred, spoilt brat is sent to Dhulwadi for the factory's inauguration against his wishes, amidst his own preparations for his marriage to girl friend Natasha. And this rolls off a series on incidents that change the lives of Kanak, Suraj, Shantanu and Natasha.

Shantanu is the male protagonist. His friends call him Shanty and he hails from a rich business class family who are settled in Mumbai. He has a heart of gold but has a knack of getting into trouble often. He is brash and irresponsible, yet lovable. His devil-may-care attitude often lands him in difficult situations. And because of his negligent attitude, he is accidentally responsible for Suraj's death.

The day after his marriage to Khanak, Suraj goes to the factory to fix up a machine for the inauguration. Shantanu's recklessness causes Suraj to get electrocuted and seriously injured. Suraj dies in pain, leaving behind a shocked Shantanu and a grieving Khanak.

Shantanu's father offers a huge compensation to the bereaved family, and Suraj's brother Mangal, blinded by greed, accepts this offer. Khanak, however, refuses the compensation and demands justice instead. At the Panchayat meeting, Shantanu shocks everyone by saying that Khanak should take the compensation offered and move on with her life. The appalled sarpanch announces the judgment – since Shantanu has destroyed Khanak's life, he would find a groom for her.

As a solution and atonement – Shantanu get on to search for the perfect groom and meets with a number of hurdles. He comes to face with the stigma attached to being a widow. Finally, he succeeds in luring a man working in a grocery store with a fat sum of Rs. 20 lakhs. Khanak voices her resentment and refuses to re-marry. She says that she doesn't want anything but justice. However, Suraj's family and the Panchayat approve of the groom that Shantanu has found for Khanak and marriage preparations begin.

Will the groom turn up? Will Kanak agree to get re-married? What does Shantanu do in the midst of all the blame? Will Kanak be able to move on ever…
