John Abraham is making his presence felt internationally. He was recently in UK on Valentine's Day, for the promotion of Taxi No 9211 along with director Milan Luthria, and was mobbed by his huge female fan following.
John Abraham
This is John's first ever movie promotional trip, he says.
"It was quite awesome at Ilford, Bradford and Feltham! I have only been in Bollywood for three years, and people haven't been too much exposed to my films, so I didn't expect this kind of reaction.
The girls gave me lots of gifts because it was Valentine's Day – flowers, cakes, teddy bears, small motorbikes and helmets – some of which we couldn't take back with us, as the car got full. I found it very sweet, touching and encouraging."
Junk food heaven
At Bradford, John arrived two-and-a-half hours late ("we were stuck in a massive traffic jam on the motorway") but more than made up for it with his friendliness, standing up on the table with a megaphone that didn't work – the screaming was so loud that poor John couldn't hear what was going on! "That whole day, we didn't have any food, but made do with chocolates, biscuits and Cokes. By the time we had dinner, it was midnight!"
Kiss ko dekhoon?
Says Milan, "It started from Heathrow Airport, when people went mad on seeing John. At the theatres, the security was not prepared; they hadn't put up the metal barricades. Fans went mad and the women broke past everything.
They started kissing John and tearing at his clothes.
We had to run into the manager's office to escape! They just wouldn't let him talk 1 the women, ranging from 14 to 60, kept asking John to kiss them."
Mobbed and mauled
At Bradford, hundreds milled into the foyer, and John was stranded in the middle with no exit! The crowd, bordering on the hysterical, shouted and screamed, "We want John! We love you John! Give us a kiss John!" and sang, "Tu hai mera garam masala."
Adds Milan, "The audience couldn't see him, so they put up a long table and he stood on it. From there, we ran outside to the car, but it had been clamped down by the police as it was in a no-parking zone.
By the time we managed to free it, some 40 women had come out and wanted photos again." There were 1,000 women who wanted his autographs on their dupattas and T-shirts. They just went mad!"
