I just had to register myself today (not because I have any affinity towards Uttaran shenanigans) but because I had to convey my opinion.
I am sorry to say that I am bitterly disappointed (nothing new of course, most of us are) the way they have made a joke of this so called socially conscious serial.
Most of you sound quite young and may not have seen a particular episode in one of the long lost program called 'Ek Kahani' (I may be missing the name) on DoorDarshan, called 'Uttaran' the meaning of which was not clear to my teenage mind.
So, in brief there was this servant girl brought up in a rich household, and similar to Uttaran, the daughter of the rich family was a particularly nasty creature (though in hindsight she seems to be an angel in comparison to Tapasya). In an half an hour episode (unbelievable right, given the slow motion these days) they show the regular torture of the servant girl - wearing cast off (uttaran) dresses of the rich daughter, usual taunting and insulting in front of her friends. The servant girl bears the brunt of this nasty behavior meekly and unlike our Iccha Mata did not proclaim to be a bada aadmi or all those tall talks (with no meaning). Then they show the wedding of the rich girl, usual big fat Indian wedding. They show the servant girl decorating the suhaag sej when the groom unknowingly walks in (don't remember why the suhag sej was in girl's home, maybe it was Ghar Jamai sort of an arrangement) and taken in by her beauty (she was in her usual tatters not like decked up) starts flirting with her. She does not seem to take offence and eventually they end up on suhag sej. Right then, the rich girl walks in her bridal finery and seeing the servant girl in bed with her groom she is shocked and goes berserk - mouthing obscenities she fires the girl. And the cliamx was when this servant girl breaks into a loony laughter saying that 'I wore your Uttaran for a few days/months but you are going to have my Uttaran for the rest of your life, Can you cast if off ? " They freeze the camera on the ashen face of the rich girl and the story ends. It was such a shocking ending for me and ever since I have never forgotten the word Uttaran. It had a solid lesson right ? Do not push people beyond a certain point, as there could be no looking back.
Fast forward it to Iccha and our current Uttaran, its a joke (an understatement), I find most of you girls to be more intelligent and courageous in your thought., and aware of the fact that true love is for courageous and honest people and not for spineless folks, who take the easy way out. And a parting shot for folks who are looking for Tapasya's reform- Grow up, otherwise everyone has a sob story on how they got corrupted. Kab tak yeh pushtayni blame game chalega ?
