Pretty women:Is it enough to have a perfect face and figure to stand out in a crowd? Four Gujarati beauties give their take.
We've all heard the adage: beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. But, more
often that not, the elusive quality of beauty trancends outward appearance and
holds more than just one smitten beholder in its sway. But, is it enough have a perfect face and figure to stand out in the crowd? Or, is there more to
the way you present yourself in public.
Four Gujarati beauties, from various professional backgrounds, give their
take, as they dwell on the look they like to sport, how they maintain their
beauty and-its constant companion-health.
DISHA VAKANI, 25, ACTOR
You must have spotted this Amdavadi beauty in Ashutosh Gowarikar's epic,
Jodhaa Akbar. This is how Disha Vakani, a popular TV actor, describes her
experience of sharing screen space with Aishwariya Rai: "I played Jodhaa's
friend, Madhvi. The experience was quite overwhelming because here I was working
with Rai, an extremely and talented woman," she says. Best remembered as the bubbly
Daya in the comic serial, Tarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chashma, Vakani feels that inner
beauty is reflected on your face. She also recommends yoga, a nutritious diet
and loads of water to keep your skin and body healthy.
"While going through some of my photographs from a photoshoot for a play, in
Mumbai, I realised the potential of a strong screen presence. For that you need
to put in a little work toward good looks. A little care can ascertain gorgeous
looks both on and off screen," she says. From a theatre background, Vakani has
always been around actors and makeup artistes. "I once saw actor Sujata Mehta
getting ready for her show. She looked stunning and I was impressed with her
makeup. I am also inspired by the styles of film actors Madhuri Dixit and
Rekha."
Vakani loves experimenting with her looks. "I often take inspiration from
fashion magazines for variations on looks. It is important for an actor to
experiment with different on-screen personas," says the actor. A thorough
professional, Vakani considers the pressure of looking good as "a part of her
work commitment."
And you'll always find a kajal, lip gloss, mascara and a blusher in her bag.
"I love sporting an Indo-Western look. My eyes, highlighted with kohl, happen to
be the strong point in my looks. But since my skin is really dry, it requires
high maintenance. Hence, a daily skin care regime is a must and I get a body
massage every week," she says.
