The 2002 episode list up. I've also added an introduction and a series overview table to the episode lists page. Although the episodes are organized by year from 2002 onwards, I decided to create only a single section for the 1998-2001 episodes for now because we don't have all the names or the complete sequence yet.
Some day I hope to add the writers and directors of the cases to the list. Of course this will be tough for the earlier episodes since I'd need the intro sequence to get the information. Anyway, that is not a big concern now.
Guys, I need your help with the DCP characters. As far as I can see, the earliest DCP on the show was DCP Dipankar played by Dilip Kulkarni. He appeared in 1999 (
The Case of Death by Drowning) as well as in 2000 (
The Case of the Blind Witness). There may have been a DCP in Viren's first case but we can't confirm that as long as they don't show that case.
For reference, this is DCP Dipankar as he appeared in
The Case of the Blind Witness:
DCP #2Couple of years later, Ahmed Khan shows up as the DCP, Here he is in
The Case of the Invisible Bullet from 2002.
The change was likely due to the fact that Dilip Kulkarni passed away in 2002 (may his soul rest in peace). I don't think Ahmed Khan is actually playing DCP Dipankar, he is playing a different DCP. I suppose we can assume that Dipankar got a promotion or he was transferred or he died, etc.
Now, does anyone know if DCP # 2's name was ever mentioned on-screen? In the invisible bullet case he is simply referred to as "DCP Sahab", nothing more. An actual name would be nice for the wiki article.
DCP # 3Some years later yet another DCP showed up, this time played by Surendra Pal. He appeared in a number of cases in 2005. Here he is from
The Case of the Killer Lake:
Once again, I don't think his name was actually mentioned in any of his appearances. Quite odd if you ask me. If I am wrong and his name was mentioned, could someone please let me know?
Finally we come to this: in
The Case of the Staged Murder, both the second and third DCPs showed up together along with another unnamed official as a panel of judges:
So what happened: did this panel of judges consist of at least 2 DCPs? Or did DCP #2 get a promotion between 2002 and 2005 and he appeared in this case as a Commissioner or something? Do we have any information on this? I'd like the wiki article to be as accurate as possible so some help would be nice.
Another thing: I have tried to put up the ranks and duration of appearances of the characters in the cast list. I need some help in confirming and completing some of these details, especially the ranks of the female officers. Asha was a Sub-Inspector from her first appearance. In
The Case of the Two Abhijits (2000), she is referred as an Inspector. Perhaps she was promoted just like Daya? However, I'd like to confirm that she was consistently referred to as Inspector Asha from then on because it could have been goof-up in that episode.
I am more uncertain about the female officers after Asha, especially the ones who showed up after the show changed to the one-hour format in 2006. These officers are frequently referred to simply as "Officer" and not by their rank which is just annoying. I have relied on memory and some guesswork to identify them as Inspector or Sub-Inspector. So it would be nice if you guys went through the list and corrected any mistakes.
