Chandigarh, February 15: There's something extremely likeable about actor Parmeet Sethi. No, we aren't even considering looks yet! Yes, got it - he never brags. Add to that his never 'beating around the bush' attitude. Which is why when you ask him why Raj (his character) is no longer on the show Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin, Sethi shoots clear: ''That's because I was tired of waiting for the character to do something. I had been told there would be changes but I didn't see those happening for long and I wasn't going to wait forever.'' The decision seems to have paid off well, for the actor is back on television with Star One's D.O.N where he plays the title role of D.O.N. or Detective Omkar Nath. This, mentions the actor, is old style detection at its simplest best. Well, that translates into a detective show where there's no forensic jargon, no fancy action stunts or special effects. ''DON is a master of disguise,'' says Sethi as we scan the pictures from the show. A rustic milkman to a paan-chewing cop to a simple school teacher, Parmeet's playing each one of them. ''That's the best part about this. I get to play so many versatile characters on one show and that for an actor is extremely satisfying,'' admits Sethi. But it's not like he's got all the time in the world to be doing an in-depth research into each one. ''Unfortunately on television you can't do that. There are times when the script is handed to me on the sets on the day of the shoot. So I have a few minutes to let the character sink in. All that handy then is what I have observed as an actor, my experience of all these years,'' explains Sethi who's also making some mental notes. ''As an actor you need to always observe your surroundings, people, and their mannerisms.'' |
