Positively sure. They both belong to a big family of classical singers. The last name N.C. ( I can't recall what it stands for) is a very well known name in South India. There was an article posted in the SRGMP forum that stated Karunya's sister N.C. Kavya had some function in Hyderabad and Karunya and Hema both sang in it along with Hema's mom and sister. Hema's sister is also a very good singer.

I will try topost that article and the exact name of the family if I find it.

Nine-year-old N.C.Kavya, belonging to huge musical family of Nallanchakravarthula has also turned composer, besides being a singer already. Kavya would grow to earn her place in the ranks of music composers in due time, Mallemala, a well known poet and filmmaker predicted, presiding over a musical function organized at Thyagaraya Gana Sabha on Sunday. Kavya is the disciple of Guru Vyjarsi Bala Subrahmanyam, a carnatic musician with a good record of achievements. The event began with a program of light and light classical music, in which, songs tuned by little Kavya were rendered by Deevena, V. Bindu, V.Sasikala Swamy, N.C. Karunya, V.Hemachandra, Ravali, N.C. Shruti and Divya. Most of them are singers from the same family. Noted Telugu poets wrote the songs. Kavya displayed uncommon skill in setting the songs to tunes keeping the substance of the songs in mind. The setting was with pleasing music and lilting rhythm. All the songs she set music for were brought into an audiocassette titled Chiru Swara Kavyam. Releasing the cassette, Mallemala appreciated the composer-singer and also Ajanta Arts Academy for concentrating on songs specially written in Telugu instead of going for film songs.

V. Bindu I think is Hema's sister and V. Saikala is Hema's mother. Hema's sister also tried out for SRGMP but was voted out very early and they showed Hema crying like a little baby during her elimination. She was a good singer. Also, I heard that Karunya has composed light classical music in Telugu at the age of 10. They seem like one talented family. I remember seeing Karunya's father sitting in audience of SRGMP and always wondered what he was doing there. Guess, he was there to suport his nephew - Hemachandra.

well...this is great news...all the singers who have a carnatic/hindustani touch to their songs sound terrific.....a ka arijit, rahul saxena and karunya....carnatic music is one of the world's oldest and richest musical traditions and many tamilians/andhraites have gone on to become really famous carnatic singers.......i too took carnatic lessons but i guess i was not really into it and thus discontinued......many many good singers are threr in the south but sadly, 99% of them dont audition for idol/saregamapa as they dont know hindi...for instance kerala and TN have innumerous good fantastic singers who are like way way way way way wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better than ppl like sandeep, panna, anuj (i am not mentioning ravi as there is no comparison between ravi 🤢 and these south indian singers)...but they are not exposed to hindi songs and even if they learn, the find it hard to get the "uchharan" right....actually we cant call the competition "indian idol" as they dont cover the whole of india...its mostly confined to the north
