Both Shaan and Himesh Reshammiya are today considered to be in the A-league of people belonging to the music world. While Shaan has made his way to be amongst the Top 5 singers over last 5 years, Himesh Reshammiya has suddenly rocketed to the one of the most sought composer (and now singer) in last 1 year, though he has been around for almost a decade since he composed 'Odh Li Chunariya' [Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya]. And now there seems to be an alleged fight between the two.

While the soft spoken Shaan denies that any fight actually happened, he doesn't minces words when he talks about the current state of music today. Also he is a little skeptical about the market today as he says he doesn't know what it wants today. An example he states is about the popularity of songs of 'Aksar', especially 'Jhalak Dikhlaja', which have been sung at his 'nasal best' by Reshammiya.

Incidentally the two released their private albums just recently around the same time. While Shaan's 'Tishnagi' suffers from bad promotion and hence is a slow seller in the market (inspite of some decent numbers in the album), Reshammiya's 'Aap Ka Surroor' has been aggressively promoted for last one month and is selling like hot cakes today!

That's right - good music is all about the packaging....

I agree...Himesh knows how to promote his album and makes it hot property...Shaan needs to promote his album more.

I think that HR and Shaan (who has worked for HR on many soundtracks)
were good friends at the start of the challenege but seeing HR be a jerk
week after week, I think that he got fed up;

bollywood/pop music world is extremely competitive and one can survive only by continuous reinvention (think madonna), good business sense(gwen , madonna, alisha) , carving niche (eminem,enya, manna dey,asha.....etc) or simply image and sex appeal(britney, boyz to men, jessica simpson). simple talent is just not enough and besides talent is very subjective. i remember in one of the srgmp episodes , one of the guest celebrity judges had said that shaan can never be good singer(but he is successful).even lata inspite of her extremely sweet voice has been accused of playing politics and ending the career of many budding singers(sharda and many others) .
under such circumstances , i think hr is playing the required game needed to stay , and pulling all stops. he is marketing himself aggresively and i cannot fault him for that. shaan needs to step up his efforts too. another talented singer who is a master when it comes to marketing is sonu nigam. you will find him on news countinuously on some pretext or other.
in some ways even the contestants play the game...vinit is counting on his young age and love story factor along with talent, while debo is counting on maturity and sympathy(given the risk he has taken) and his talent to sway people. abhijeet sawant was an overnight celebrity though it was just not his talent alone(his so called affair with mona singh was highly promoted when his album was released) that got him there. another example is qazi who sold himself very sucessfully...he promoted his dancing and attitude along with singing.
