I think serials are watched because they offer an escape from reality and worries of the real world. People come from work, school and watch tv serials with their families because they entertain them and allow them to concetrate on something other than the real world. Problems, issues, worries, and such are forgotten for that 30 minutes a serial plays and in that time a person can feel at ease and relaxed. Serials offer recreational therapy and Im sure everyone needs one of those sometimes...

Well, I dont watch K-Serials at all...I prefer reality TV in fact. Its way more interesting and also has a bit of "contrived reality" in there for TRPs, but its all in good fun.

would prefer to watch survivor or American Idol or Saregamapa Challenge to Ekta Maiyya's Moti-Bindi, zari-sari vamps and perpetually crying protagonists.

i think most people who watch them, either subscribe to Star Plus alone (Balaji domination) or have no other options when they come home at night to watch. Ekta is after all one smart dame.
