Almost done with A Thousand Splendid Suns. I have mixed feelings about the novel, but one thing I am certainly sure of is that The Kite Runner is a far, far better novel than this one. The story was compelling, but it failed to provide the same heart-wrenching feeling like The Kite Runner did. The characters are (mostly) one-dimensional. They have no flaws (except that they are repressed women on an oppressed society, which is not a character flaw, to be honest), they do not go through any change, or have any redeeming qualities (as in the case of Rasheed), and the transition between the characters (Tariq, for instance) were not very well developed (but possibly, that was how it was intended by the author). It is an amazing book, despite its flaws, and I'm not going to deny that, but with a debut like The Kite Runner, I was expecting more from Hosseini.

I have The Kite Runner on my desk right now. My daughter recommended this book. I am planning to read it today at work if no one shows up at DM CC thread 😆
