...personally after watching mnik yesterday i love both the films😃 so no comparison for me.

This is a a piece of news which will hurt the fans of Shahrukh Khan. King Khan has lost it out to the perfectionist Aamir Khan once again. Shahrukh's My Name Is Khan which had got a bombastic opening opening in it's first week has lost grip over the Box Office in it's second week and seems to be no match for Aamir's 3 Idiots. My Name Is Khan has seen a steep fall in the second week with occupancy falling as much as 60% to 80%.

The movie had started off well thanks to the controversy created by the Shiv Sena over Shahrukh's support to the Pakistani players in the IPL. Fox Star India which is distributing the movie was excited after the movie had a better start than 3 Idiots. But My Name Is Khan seems to have lost the momentum having grossed Rs. 150 Crores in the second week compared to Rs. 240 Crores , 3 Idiots grossed in the first 10 days.

This is not the first time that Shahrukh has emerged No. 2 in the race. In 2008 too Shahrukh's Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi was going well but when Aamir's Ghajini released the movie found tough to breathe. Ghajini had gone on to establish records at the Box Office which was incidentally broken by Aamir starer 3 Idiots. Now having lost two consecutive rounds to Aamir, Shahrukh will find it tough to keep his 'Baadshah of Bollywood' tag.

It seems like a soccer match in its 'injury-time', when the opposition is leading by more than 5-6 goals. Yes, this example applies with My Name Is Khan & 3 Idiots war. Shah Rukh's MNIK's tryst with controversy, and the subsequent bumper first week, wasn't enough to earn it even the half of the money earned by the Aamir's Idiots.

It has been 2 weeks since the release of MNIK, and with the slow weekdays, MNIK has been able to pile up Rs 150 crore, while 3 Idiots, after 2 months of its release, has Rs 385 crore in their account. The trade pundits have predicted that MNIK's run will last till 160-175 crore.

If we go by week to week comparison then we can see that in its 1st 10 days MNIK earned around Rs. 150 crore, where as 3 Idiots have been able to earn around Rs 240 crore in the same period.

As per the data released by boxofficeindia.com, MNIK has collected around 45 crore in the first week in domestic market, is expected to earn around 16-17 crore in the subsequent weeks, which mounted its total domestic earning to 60-62 crore. Whereas Raju Hirani-Vinod Chopra's venture grossed a total of Rs 79 crore, and Rs 55 crore in the second week.

"In all, My Name is Khan's lifetime collections in the Indian market
may total around Rs 70 crore. If they are lucky, they can hitch it up
to Rs 75 crore, the figure that every Bollywood superhit aspires for,"
said trade analyst Komal Nahata.

The other single screens in Mumbai are saying that it's the last week for MNIK. "It will be curtains for My Name is Khan in single-screen
theatres," said a PVR executive.

The new releases are the proving to be the final nail in MNIK's coffin, especially Karthik Calling Karthik, and Teen Patti. "Karthik… will be released on the same day as the Amitabh Bachchan-Ben
Kingsley thriller Teen Patti. Both are expected to generate big
footfalls at the plexes. My Name is Khan Collections are trickling and
theatre occupancy is as low as 25 per cent, so we will move it to free
prime slots for Karthik…" said Vishal Kapoor, chief operating officer
of Cinemax, Mumbai.

Well, the only good news for MNIK is, it has to satisfy itself with the 6th position among Bollywood's all time biggest grosser.

Mumbai, Feb. 23: The numbers are still being crunched but the verdict appears to be out: Rancho is far ahead of Rizwan.

In its second week, Shah Rukh Khan's My Name is Khan, dogged by pre-release controversies which many now say helped the film get the huge initial, is finding it difficult to meet the standard set by rival Aamir Khan's 3 Idiots.

The latest figures suggest that the total domestic and international collections of MNIK are likely to touch Rs 160-175 crore, which, distributors pointed out, was a substantial amount. 3 Idiots, which earned Rs 385 crore, raised the bar to an extent which others could find hard to emulate.

MNIK, in which SRK plays Rizwan Khan, a victim of religious hostility in post-9/11 America, raked in Rs 150 crore globally at the end of the first 10 days.

In contrast, 3 Idiots — in which Aamir played a classroom genius called Rancho — notched up Rs 240 crore in the same period.

Exhibitors pointed out that 3 Idiots continued to lord over multiplex show listings even after the first two weeks of its release.

On the other hand, My Name is Khan will have to vacate prime slots to the Farhan Akhtar-Deepika Padukone flick Karthik Calling Karthik when it releases this Friday.

"Karthik… will be released on the same day as the Amitabh Bachchan-Ben Kingsley thriller Teen Patti. Both are expected to generate big footfalls at the plexes. My Name is Khan collections are trickling and theatre occupancy is as low as 25 per cent, so we will move it to free prime slots for Karthik…" said Vishal Kapoor, chief operating officer of Cinemax, a plex chain in Mumbai.

According to figures published by the online trade tracker boxofficeindia.com, My Name is Khan, which collected a little over Rs 46 crore in the first week across India, is expected to rake in Rs 16-17 crore in the second week taking the total domestic net collection to about Rs 62-63 crore.

3 Idiots, the biggest Indian grosser so far, netted Rs 79 crore in the first week and another Rs 55 crore in the second week in the domestic circuit.

For single-screen theatres in Mumbai at least, this is the final week for MNIK. "It will be curtains for My Name is Khan in single-screen theatres," said a PVR executive.

So, even if it makes it to the coveted Rs 75 crore mark in the domestic market, MNIK will still lag behind Shah Rukh's last big release, Om Shanti Om (2007), which grossed Rs 79 crore.

If it does make the grade, it will be pegged at the sixth spot among all top Bollywood grossers, without adjusting for inflation.

Whatever, I don't think many expected MNIK to beat biggest bo records. It was supposed to work for a section of audience and critics which it did. Saying that I still feel that I have personally been far more impressed by the kind of cinema Aamir has been doing lately. I have enjoyed all his flicks lately. He seems to have found a great art of making entertaining movies with a touch of message and sensibility to it. Honestly Aamir has been doing my kind of cinema lately, I loved RDB, TZP, 3I even ghajni. And his movies definately deserve to be at the top, considering the fact that they r well made movies. With SRK I feel that he is a bit overexposed. He is in IPL, so many ads, hosting tv shows, hosting events. He is always in the public eye, and when he acts in movies people r like woh he is same in all the movies, but I think that the fact that he is always in public eye we r very used to seeing him everywhere and there is less mystery left. SRK should definately cut down more on his apprearances and should show up only during the time of his releases.. like some other actors.. so that there is more curiousity. But I guess this kind of setup works for Srk, at the end of the day whatever works for him is fine. But seriously he should kind of reconsider his strategy and keep a healthy balance of public apperances and movies.

Yeah, like that makes the biggest difference in the world. Actually, it's not 3I and MNIK that are being compared, it is Aamir and SRK who are being compared. Given the continuing rift between them, this piece of news just adds to the spice, doesn't it ?

I don't want to compare the two films as I feel that it is a very stupid thing to do - to compare the two films simply for the heck of it. I liked MNIK for what it is, and SRK performed brilliantly, IMO.

the genre of both the film are too different 3i was a movie with song and dance and mnik was a serious movie with no songs and dance but still collected 150 crore is a record in it self and plz dnt compare Aamir and srk agar aisa hai tou who can forget abot oso and tzp?even cdi did well then tzp

I really don't care about this all

i dont think you can compare these 2 movies with each other

because 3idiots is more fun which people watch more often

and MNIK is a movie with a message and emotional movie..its really different

what ever MNIK khan is a super hit soo :D

What is funy is that Aamir fans are always ready to demote Aamir from Ace to King.. haha don't they know ace is bigger than king.. gosh 😆. Well if they are that eager then yes Aamir can become king khan and Srk can become Ace khan.. and trump Aamir again. 😛

I enjoyed watching 3 idiots so much ...it made me forget everthing in the outside world for 3 hours lol....and btw i m tired of movies which talk abt religion..my head hurts nowadas when ppl talk abt religion and peace..soo i want to watch the cinema where there is lots of good and clean entertainment...again that is jus how i feel .. i apologise if i hurt anybody's views or sentiments
