Neighbourly nineties

Pran is suddenly socialising again; rattling off old dialogue over drinks
Veteran actor Pran, who celebrated his 90th birthday on Friday (February 12, 2010), has found a renewed zest for life. Not only has he shed the wall that he had built around himself by going out of his way and interacting with people, he has also started recollecting dialogue from his earlier films. This transformation has done him good as his frail health is picking up.

A source says, "Nowadays, Pran saab is in high spirits. He laughs more often, reads a lot and even socialises."

Pran's daughter, Pinky Bhalla confirms the news. "We celebrated his 90th birthday on Friday. The family decided to celebrate his big day with a bash. Apart from family members pouring in from abroad, Amitabh Bachchan, Shammi Kapoor, Krishna Kapoor, Nimmi, Shatrughan Sinha, Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu, were some of the industry people who came in wish him on his big day."

Interestingly, the renewed vigour has triggered a boost in memory wherein the veteran actor remembers dialogue from the yesteryear films he has acted in. Pinky elaborates, "Dad has suddenly remembered almost all the dialogue of his films, especially those of Adalat, Adhikaar and Kasauti. He is also asking us for the DVDs of his other films. If we suggest some new film which we have liked, he doesn't mind seeing that too. And yes, he has begun to see a lot of television."

Interestingly, Pran loves to mix with people these days unlike the secluded life he was leading until recently. "He enjoys his drink. He loves to call people over to his residence. He has also started calling me up thrice daily. It is heartwarming to see him active and in such good spirit," adds Pinky.

The name sounds familiar, but I can't seem to remember him. Is he the one that played villain in movies back in 70's?
