Clad in formal suit, Amitabh Bachchan is in a jovial mood. It is after a long time that the press has got an opportunity to have a heart-to-heart chat with Amitabh Bachchan. First things first—what role was the actor playing in Apoorva Lakhia's Ek Ajnabee?
"I play this retired commando. Arjun Rampal is a friend of mine. He tells me about a rich family who is looking out for a bodyguard for their daughter. He tells me if I am interested in taking up that job. You know kidnapping is the biggest business in Bangkok. Also there is an incident in the past that had occurred in my life. It is because my past I am unable to relate to this young girl that I have to protect. It is only once that I we get to know each other better that my past begins to heal. This is one of the few roles that I enjoyed doing."
Bachchan says that the unit was not intimidated by his presence on the sets. "We, Arjun Rampal, Perizaad Zorabian, Vikram Chatwal, Rucha and I were there to work. I don't understand this intimidation bit. Aren't we all normal human beings? I am an okay actor!"
How was it working with young director like Apoorva Lakhia? "Apoorva had earlier worked with my son Abhishek and Abhishek had told me that Apoorva was always very disciplined. I had only heard about his passion for discipline. It was while working on this film that I experienced it. Directors like Apoorva Lakhai are the need of the hour. He has worked abroad and has the managerial skills so as to have everything well organized and in place. Did you know that Ek Ajnabee was completed in 35 days flat? If we could manage to do that it is thanks to Apoorva's knack to get things well organized in advance. Everything was minutely planned. The unit members were aware of what they had to do when. From day one we were told that Apoorva was the captain of the ship and we must do what he told us to do. There was no second thought about that."
Working with another young girl Amitabh said, "I amazed the way these young children give their shots. There is no need for a retake. The present is intelligent. They are well aware of their abilities and know how to pursue it. It is we adult actors who keep giving retakes and still don't get our shot right. I had a wonderful time working with this young girl. Sabki mataji thi who," he laughs.
