Yep, I too would love to see more Indian classical and folk, cos I understand them better. But Dharmesh didn't go out bcos he attempted a Indian dance as Geeta said, he was eliminated cos he didn't execute it to the best effort. Last year Geeta did Kathakali on a bollywood number but her choreographya nd concept were crystal clear and beautiful...this time, she had no concept, the song didn't match and she didn't give good steps to Dharmesh...his eyes movement was also not good, it was the make up that hid the flaw. Why did Geeta have to attempt something that she knows she cannot do full justice, there are many many art forms, which can be done... Geeta was accusing as if cos she tried a new Indian style hence her contestant was eliminated, but thats not the cause...try new forms, but also execute them properly...

That wasn't why Dharmesh got out. Nikki's devi dance was appreciated a lot by all 3 of the judges. Dharmesh got out as the dance he portryed was not the true form of Theyyam dance. There were a lot of things missing..the main thing being the actual feel of the song..which was the effect of the trance which was not portrayed to the audience at all.
Although I have a lot of respect for such dance forms and enjoyed his performance, I think if it is to be portrayed to the whole of India, it should be done properly.
I don't think there is anything wrong with attempting folk dance but the type of dance chosen by geeta was very difficult to learn within a week which is what terence mentioned. Other dances like bharatanatyam are tough too and there is so much to learn in it but it is possible to give a good performance on it in a short time with good training.

Oh definitely DC! 😃 There's absolutely no denying that. Actually, I was speaking from Terence's POV, when he said is it possible for the contestants to learn in a span of one week anything too new or difficult. He's actually very very right if you think about it.
Plus, after watching today's episode, to us viewers contemporary and Urban style may seem the same, but to someone of Terence's caliber, it's completely another dance form. There's that aspect to take into consideration as well. 😛 He's bloody done a good homework at wherever he went to learn new dance styles. 😆 I mean urban style, who ever even thought about it? I doubt even Remo, if perhaps he knew it existed, had ever used it before, don't think so from his reaction to Terence afterward. 😆

I also think though, in Geeta's case, as you mentioned it, there's no choreography in the first place for the contestants to be able to execute well. See Remo's dance today, the choreography was top notch, at least did seem so from comments afterward, but the Puneet and Shashank hardly did full justice to it. That's the sign of a good, excellent even choreographer. In Geeta's case, she keeps defending her students and telling them they did extremely well when both other masters disagree. 😕

I suggest that they start putting a theme up for each Friday and all contestants prepare items based on that theme only. This way - we will also get to see who really excelled.
The way it is right now - certain contestants are under utilized and certain are over -utilized for the same form. Additionally, on any given day - there are at least two performances that are really good. Now, how do you decide which one of the two is better when the forms are like apples and oranges?
Dance form themes will eliminate these problems and will force the masters to give their best - since all contestants will be performing the same form, masters will be forced to introduce the wow moments to make their contestants looks better. This will also test the versatility of the contestants and only those who are all-round dancers will be left standing when it comes to top 4.

Yes it's Dance India Dance, but not Dance INDIAN Dance nor Natyam Nadanam or something, hence the reason why this show has gained so much popularity with just one season alone! The reason they brought three masters from three styles to the show is also to showcase the different dance forms to the public and to make the show interesting for people of all ages and backgrounds. So there's Terence with stronger base in contemporary and international styles, Remo with hiphop and Geeta with classical..

So far, I have been enjoying this show, and of course Terence's numbers more than anything. I have enjoyed some of Remo's and Geeta's too, though not all. Last season when Alisha was made to do the classical and Vrushali was made to do the Marathi folk and contemporary, many pointed fingers at Terence for not making them do something they are good at, and that Vrushali should have done the classical instead of Alisha!! So no matter what he does, there would be people to blame him, criticize him, etc.

I dont want to watch only Indian on this show. It will lose the charm if only or mainly Indian dances are shown, as people have the opportunity to watch those dances often in India. I dont mind occasional Indian dances among other dances.. And I prefer and enjoy contemporary/ballet/Latin dances over hiphop/break... Just my thoughts..

I think there are some dance forms which can be executed in a week's time even if you are a non dancer...but I think Geeta's choice of Theyyam was like a mouse trying to eat a buffalo...sorry bad comparison, but like Terrence said, Theyyam is a dance that is done when u have some energy and connection from God and u r in a trans...so at that time, the chakkars done are something which one cannot do in their normal self...Also somehow I felt that Dharmesh didn't execute the expressions that well initially either, which Remo pointed out but Geeta cut him off and to it to a different tangent... I guess folk dances like lava dance from lakshwadeep islands, lavani from Maharashtra, kumaoni or himachali dances, dance from east India, lot of folk dances from south...lots of dances can be tried...theyyam can be tried, similar to Gondhal in Marathi...but the Junoon required has to be matched in the performance...otherwise don't attempt that, do a different dance form...Terrence tried to say that it was not Dharmesh's fault aht he didn't perform well, cos the main routine of the dance ie chakkars and all are done by people who have done that art form for year.. I hope I was able to say things clearly... 😆 ...
