Mozart of Madras ki Jai Ho, AR Rahman wins Grammy!!
[01 Feb 2010]

A R Rahman, the Indian music maestro who won double Oscars for his original musical scores in Danny Boyle's 'Slumdog Millionaire', has again won two Grammy awards for the best film song 'Jai ho' and best soundtrack for the same film at the fifty- second awards function.

Gulzar, the author of the acclaimed number 'Jai ho', has also been honored jointly with the extraordinary talented music composer from the southern metropolis of Madras. 'Jai Ho' song has been signature tune of Danny Boyle's 'Slumdog Millionaire' and was sung by Sukhwinder Singh, Tanvi Shah, Mahlaxmi Iyer, Vijay Prakash and A R Rahman. A R Rahman was ecstatic at the coveted honor and thanked god by saying that god was great.

However, the win for the Mozart of Madras had come after defeating a number of talented and big names of music world from all over the world. For instance, in the soundtrack category Rahman had to face stiff competition from the likes of Quentin Tarantino for 'Inglorious Basterds' and Steve Jordan for 'Cadillac Records', while in the song category he defeated Bruce Springsteen for his song 'The Wrestler'.

Besides Grammy win for Danny Boyle's 'Slumdog Millionaire', A R Rahman's Tamil number in Hollywood flick 'Couples Retreat', has also been vying with other biggies for a nomination in Oscars and the results are likely to come out tomorrow. If Rahman's number wins the nomination tomorrow, it would be really a great honor for the talented Indian music composer and the world would also say with Rahman, 'it's insane, the god is great again'.

A R Rahman, who lives a very humble life in Madras and devotes his time for the research and promotion of original music through his school and other efforts, had started his journey with jingles and then moved on to composing music for features films.

Rahman's first big bollywood break came with Mani Rathnam's acclaimed flick 'Dil Se' starring superstar Shah Rukh Khan and Manisha Koirala. The Rahman mania has never been on wane since then in bollywood and every big filmmaker wants him in his mega budget flick.

A R Rahman's one of the most awaited films of bollywood is Mani Rathnam's upcoming magnum opus 'Raavan' starring Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai in the lead. The Tamil version of the flick has Vikram in the main lead.
