However is the Kindle here to stay forever, or is it a passing trend? Is Kindle the future of books? Are books really going to die out for Kindle, the way VHS died out for DVD? Or CD's died out for the I-pod? Kindle touts itself as environmentally friendly as it does not kill trees for paper, will it buy the market with that?

I love reading, but I simply cannot imagine using a Kindle. To me there is just something magical about having a book in my hand, to feel the paper on my fingertips. I can't imagine reading without turning the pages over. I can't imagine not walking through a bookstore and browsing through titles on a shelf. I can't imagine not opening up a new book with that crisp new paper scent. I can't imagine not having dog ears at the edge of my books, or yellowed pages, reminding me nostalgically how long I have had the book or how often I have read it. What about those books I read while eating and have food stains all over? What about those books that I stack in the bathroom for bathroom reading? How is one supposed to take use the Kindle when you want to soak up in the tub for hours and read?

Sometimes I like to doodle in my books and make notations. Have you ever had those hand me down books from family and found silly things scribbled in, or purchased a used book and tried to imagine who used to own it before by the doodles in it? Did you ever have one of those used books with silly notations that you dreamed would lead you to hidden treasure? Did you ever laugh out loud at the mustaches, beards and accessories that changed the illustrations? Have you ever found things hidden in used books like letters, love notes and sometimes even folded cash.

Then I also enjoy stacking books on the shelf, arranging them and taking pride in what I own. Nothing beats browsing through your own collection on the shelf. Picking up a book, sliding it back in place. Flipping through to get an idea what its about.

I simply cannot imagine the Kindle replacing everything exciting about having books. To me Kindle is just a fad that will fade away because books are irreplaceable. Anyone feel that the Kindle is better than books and will cause books to die out?

Ah, you sound so much like my first born😊 I am a book lover too but I do not feel the urge to own something I absolutely loved reading. I can't re-read a book no matter how much I loved it. Still, I share the same passion when it comes to holding it, turning the page, putting a bookmark in it and being impatient to get back to it so that I can discover what comes next. I get kind of sad when a book I really like comes to an end. I feel a void the next day as that feeling of getting back to that book is all gone and there's nothing to look forward to it again ....... till I pick up another book.
My daughter, on the other hand, loves to buy books. She is a voracious reader and she cherishes the books she owns like prized treasure. I once questioned her why there are so many books scattered on her night stands and study table when we just bought her a brand new book shelf - a 3rd one for her room. She responded back that those were the books that she has not read yet and the ones on the nightstands were the ones she would read next and then the ones on her study table. She loves arranging her books on her the shelves apphabetically by authors' names and then the book names these days. Before, they were arranged based on which ones she had read how many times and which ones are her absolute favs. Like I said, she can spend hours with her books and her iPod - strictly in that order. I can't imagine her without a book close by.
So, no matter what Kindle claims, books will always be here as long as we have people like you and my daughter😊

Absolutely nothing can replace good old books!😊 I bought by favourite book, 'The book of Disquiet' from a secondhand bookseller. It was formerly a state library book. I like many scribbles in the book as much as the book itself..😊 I too have scribbled in lots of library books!😉 My room is full of books and books alone! But no order! nothing! Absolute chaos!😳 Doctor told me to move the books to another room as I suffer from dust allergy. But I cant imagine my room without my books..!😊

Yeah Books have their own charm. I love collecting books & at times do re read them 😆 I usually cover them with colour coded transparent sheets & then stack them neatly in my room. It pains me to see them spoiled by some friends who borrow them but dont treat them with care

When I was in highschool, I was addicted to M&Bs. I also had this nasty nasty habit of underlining all mushy gushy romantic parts 😆 My parents brought me a box of all my old books last year when they visted us. We thought they were lost while they were somewhere in their loft. I was dusting them so that I can put them in my study and started leafing through some of those books - the pages turned yellow, the musky smell from the storage and...yes...you got that right - the faded blue underlines from the ball point pen 😆 Needless to say, I burst out laughing.
I still have this habit of jotting the dates on my books. Going over those books and seeing some dates as far back as 1986 and 87 was quite nostalgic!

I ❤️ to read, i have a whole library at home..😆 not just of novels, but also of textbooks and old magazines. I dont think the Kindle can ever replace books.

I still have the books i burrowed from the library that I never returned. If I really liked a book, I use to hide it and tell my dad I lost it, he would end up paying the library..😆
