At the Sharma household, the phone rings and Dadi picks it up. The conversation is obviously a disturbing one for her, since at the end of it, the caller at the other end hangs up on her. Padma asks whose call was it, but Dadi is hesitant. Finally, Dadi tells her that the folks who brought up the proposal for Deepu decided to call it off. Everybody is saddened to hear that. As Dadi gets up, Padma asks her how were they the ones to call it off, since they were the ones who came up with it in the first place. Dadi tells her that they didn't give a reason: they just called it off. Padma insists on the answer, and Dadi tells her that they didn't want any relationship w/ a family whose daughter is w/o character. Saying this, she walks out of the room. 😭😭
Deepu is furious, and points out that from the start, he was opposed to marriage, but they wouldn't listen and were obdurate. Now, even the girl's party are going by these rumors. He is glad that it came unraveled, since there wasn't a point in forging a relationship w/ people too ready to believe rumors. He warns everyone of serious consequences if they raised the topic of marriage w/ him again. Saying this, he walks out of there. 👏👏
Jyoti (echoing Pankaj earlier) asks that if there was a problem w/ her, why are they severing relations w/ Deepu, who was blameless in this? She resolves to go and talk to them. Padma asks her what's she going to say - they'll believe whatever they see and hear. She tells Jyoti that while she was expelled, Sushma left her hubby and the family now has to bear the brunt of all these combined events. 🤬🤬 Saying this, she too leaves.
Deepu is in his room, and Padma comes in and apologizes, saying that she didn't want to pressurize him into this marriage. She thought that since he has to shoulder all the responsibilities, a marriage such as this could have improved their situation, but instead, he has to suffer due to what other people say. She adds that while he shoulders all the burden, his burdens keep increasing. Deepu is angry, while Padma continues that he can't see what she does - namely, that how long is he going to shoulder all this burden. 🤬🤬 Jyoti & Sushma are overhearing this from outside, and recognizes it as true to form Padma. Sushma comforts Jyoti.
In the Vashisth mansion, CM enters Pankaj's room and asks how he is. She says that she realizes that he must be even more hurt hearing what her friends had to say (in which case, Pankaj could have asked her why she maintains such crass company 🤬🤬) She asks Pankaj whether whatever she told him about Jyoti was wrong? Pankaj tells her that she wasn't, not at all. 😕😕 CM tells her that it doesn't make her happy to talk about Jyoti like that, but she had to, b'cos had she stayed silent, everyone would have thought that they were at fault. The world wouldn't have seen his pain, but just Jyoti's tears. Jyoti just disgraced the entire family in front of the world. But CM doesn't care about the world, just Pankaj (how touching🤬🤬) Who in the world sees how Jyoti has cheated Pankaj? CM continues that Jyoti couldn't have dreamed of the things she got from Pankaj, and in return, she demonstrated her infidelity, and maintained her pre-marital relationship w/ her ex. She says that Jyoti entertained Brij for hours in Pankaj's room, taking full advantage of his blindness. 🤬🤬 She tells him to let off his anger, and recognize that Jyoti isn't his light any more, but his eclipse, which he needs to come out of.
In the morning, Sushma brings to Jyoti a stack of papers, and tells her that there are a bunch of jobs there that she can look for. She asks Jyoti to find some for her as well. Jyoti tells her to first complete her studies, and then work. Sushma suggests that she do both side by side, as many people do. Jyoti tells her that she needs good qualifications for a good job, and she doesn't want Sushma to do just any ordinary job. Plus since she's pregnant, it's difficult to get a job in this situation. Sushma regrets not giving her 12th exams, but Jyoti tells her that even now, she can take it, and help Padma as well. Sushma agrees and says that she won't repeat this mistake this time. She'd study properly, take the tests and pray that Jyoti quickly gets a good job. 👍🏼👍🏼
As they are leaving, Jyoti takes KK's blessings, and he tells her that come good times or bad, never to lose hope. He wishes her the best. As she is leaving, KK gives her some cash for the scooter, and Jyoti smiles. Sushma gets her some dahi/sugar, and reminds her how Jyoti used to give that to Sushma for good luck.
The phone rings, and Sushma answers it. It is Sudha, and she asks for Jyoti-didi. Sushma tells Jyoti that Sudha-didi wants to talk to her, but Jyoti tells her to tell her that she wouldn't talk to her. Both Sushma & KK are shocked to hear this, while Jyoti tells her to tell Sudha not to call again. Sudha overhears this from the other end while Jyoti continues that if her in-laws got to know of this, they wouldn't like it. Sushma protests, but Jyoti explains that it's true that Sudha would be hurt by this, just as Jyoti is, but this is for her own good. 👍🏼😭 Sudha overhears Jyoti's directions to Sushma. Jyoti continues that she doesn't want Sudha too to suffer b'cos of her. Sudha lets go of the phone and is completely shattered.
Jyoti is driving down the highway in her scooter and finally, at a spot, she stops since a motorcycle comes in her way to a screeching halt. The guy on the motorcycle apologizes to her, but his friends tell him that his bike has brought him good fortune, since the madam on the scooter means a new romance for them. Jyoti yells at them to shut up and yield, but the guys continue to tease her on her ability to have new affairs daily. 🤬🤬 (Obviously, they had bought into the rumors about her and assumed that she'd be willing to have affairs w/ more people than just one.) Finally, Jyoti pulls back and drives out of there.
Jyoti enters an office and takes a seat. She offers her resume, but the guy interviewing her tells her that it's not necessary. He tells her that he doesn't believe in grades or degrees, he believes in performance. He goes by people's work. He also tells her that he's heard a lot about her, Mrs Jyoti Vashisth, or should he say Miss Jyoti Sharma?
The interviewer asks Jyoti not to misunderstand him, but that he likes her attitude, and believes in freedom. He doesn't believe in institutions like marriage. He asks how 2 people can live w/ each other for an entire lifetime - it's ridiculous and so boring!!! He says that he has nothing to ask her - when she saw that she didn't have her freedom, she snatched it. 🤬🤬 He likes open minded people, and is sure that she'd be very happy w/ him.
Jyoti gets up and tells him, Mr Akash Chowdhary that he's formed his opinion of her just on other people's gossip, but that their visions were totally different, since he was a lowlife and his thinking just as tawdry. Akash responds that he's forgotten the rules, and that he concedes that he's not as rich as Pankaj Vashisth and may not look after her as well, but she'd not lack things like apartments, foreign trips, business class, 6-figure salaries... He asks her if he now understood her as well? He then lays his hands on Jyoti's shoulder, but Jyoti slaps him. The scene ends on Jyoti's face.
The first scene pretty much meant that Baby mausi's proposal is dead, and I was glad that Deepu read everybody the riot act. However, Padma bitching inside about Deepu having to shoulder the entire burden understandably ticked him off. In the past, Jyoti used to do it, and then, she supported the entire family, whereas Deepu has to support the same set of people, minus Sudha. So the re-conciliatory Padma is gone, and the ole bitch is back. Also, if Padma thinks that Sushma coming back from Brij was a black mark, why not send her back again, this time hoping that she be killed? 🤢🤢
While Jyoti's refusal to talk to Sudha sounded mean, I understand why she did it, and laud her for it: as it is, Sudha has been ordered not to have anything to do w/ her, and is already getting grief for just having a photo on her dressing table. The last thing she needs is fuel for Minal or CM. So if Sudha isn't going to do it herself, it's necessary for Jyoti to make her do it. That said, I did sympathize w/ Sudha for having to hear this. She should focus on Uday, as well as MN&G for a while. In the old days, Sudha was isolated at home. Now, she at least has Uday to love and to love her, and she should settle down w/ him ASAP
The final harassment scenes - at the market, and at the office, Jyoti handled well. All in all, today's episode was about Jyoti's reputation following her everywhere - whether it was Deepu's proposal, her job hunt, her contact in the streets
