Most of the time, we don't know what the character's off-screen personality is like, but people tend to assume that this person is the same off-screen as the character they play on-screen. When we see an interview or see them on the news for whatever reason, it clicks that this is an altogether different person, and depending on how we perceive that image, we develop likes/dislikes for actors. Usually, we're falling in love with the character, but because obviously, the face of the actor is in our minds, we start loving the actor for carrying out that character's role.

Let me take this brave step of bringing the ever popular Karan Singh Grover of DMG fame. Confession time - watched a few episodes of the show and fell in love with Dr. Armaan. ;) Later on, I watched reality shows where he participated and then the big news of course of his shenanigans, and well, although I continued to like Dr. Armaan, the actor himself lost respect - not just in my eyes, but many of his fans as well. A similar example is of SRK, many people like his work, but also say that he's extremely rude and arrogant off-screen. I don't know how true that is, but I'm sure it turns people off.

Conclusion - character comes first, and then the actor. Both play a role though. :)

I am seriously considering the offer of MID, or do you think it's more telepathy... ? 😆

Count me in, I loved Dr. Armaan, still do and I can bet that won't change. DMG was the first ever indian tele series I got addicted to, for a short period of time though thankfully, and not just because of Dr. Armaan, but the essence and freshness it carried. And then all the hoola-hoo about Karan's personal life happened. I don't hate him for that, I wouldn't have any personal reason, would I? But I just lost the respect he once had while playing Dr. Armaan. I still do watch some random scenes very rarely when I miss old times, but you can count on it that's it never the same. You have a smile, but inside, you don't feel the same excitement you used to while watching the episodes. When an actor's personality ruins the character who brought him to fame, I guess that's what happens. People still love Dr. Armaan, but obviously not loving Karan anymore is sure going to make a difference to it. At least from my personal experience.

On the other hand, I find SRK very charming and intelligent to state so. He's always been extreme polite and courteous in all interviews I watched. I met him once during the shooting of KKHH in Mauritius, and never did he seem rude or arrogant, or perhaps that's because I was a baby, and he was not so much of quite a star at that point of time. I wouldn't know today, but I like him from whatever little I see of him off screen in press meetings and interviews. However, we also tend to forget that people do judge when they see a character they don't like... Consequently, they seem not to like the actor as well and criticize him despite how well he behaves himself, which is, I personally think, the hitch in SRK's case.

All in all though, I'd go for both, I think an actor makes a character as much as a character makes an actor. They have to go hand in hand. You simply cannot have one without the other. It's as if, you can have the best script and the best character to date in the world, but you just must be enough of an actor to live up to it. On the other hand, a character may not be so special, but just the way an actor enacts that part could make him reach heights.

I myself love only the characters, and could care less who portrays them onscreen as long as he/she does a good job of it.

I like that , 😊but its equally true that many actors achieve fame after a particularly popular role that they portray !
