As for versatility, for the longest time even Aamir was the chocolate boy romance hero. I think recently SRK has also started trying to pick more diverse roles. He always described himself as a product rather than an actor so it makes sense that he catered to the masses for a lot longer than Aamir did.
Oh yeah, believe me, that bit of it pisses me off too. I hope, fervently hope, they take it the right way and it's not some stupid reason as I said on the Bollywood forum. I'd officially sue KJo for ruining the moment otherwise... 😆
Exactly what I feel as well. It's not been that long since Aamir started on an ulterior pathway. SRK's not really following to say so, he still does cater for mass audience, especially when you see him taking up movies like Ra-1, though he did claim that one he was doing only for his son. Yet I do see him choosing more nowadays, especially since the past 2-3 years, he hasn't been doing only 1-2 purely commercial movies. I like the track he is getting onto.
On acting front, well now that 3 Idiots is showing its worth, I think it'd be difficult moving Aamir from where he is. It's as if, you know for the next few years at least, there wouldn't be one movie of Aamir that wouldn't be a blockbuster, and the best part is he knows it, and doesn't want to mess around with that bit. I don't think even Amitabh Bachan or anyone else for the matter of fact, except Johnny Depp 😆, could guarantee the type of success Aamir does, critically AND commercially! I'd would be awesome to see someone overthrowing him, though I feel we have quite some time to wait for that one! 😆
