Part 9:
That night, Vidya got ready to sleep. She thought about her life...in a few weeks, she's going to get married and she hasn't even had fun in her life. Vidya looks at a party invitation one of her friends gave her to go to the college party. It was tomorrow.
The next day:
"I can't believe I'm wearing thisā¦it's just not me", said a girl. "Come on Vidzā¦you look nice in this dressā¦all the boys will be after you". "Maybe I shouldn'tā¦", said Vidya. "Please wear itā¦for me", said Tanya. "Okayā¦", said Vidya. At the party, everyone was dancing and drinking. Suddenly, everyone looks towards the door, where someone stood. She was wearing a medium-lengthened black dress with 1 inch straps and a black shawl with white flowers on it coming over her shoulders. It was Vidya. As she entered the building, Vidya felt really uncomfortable, but Tanya prompted her on.
Everyone was at the party. Soon, one of Sagar's friends brought Sagar to the party. Sagar looked about and saw that his friends were gone. He walked to the drink counter and looked around when he heard a familiar voice. "Is thatā¦Vidya?", Sagar thought. "Nahhhhā¦Vidya would never come to a party like thisā¦but what if it is Vidya?...I have to find out". Sagar listened to the voice again and followed itā¦it came from a girl in a black dress. She was drunk and there were boys dancing all around her. Sagar went closer and touched the girl's shoulder. She looked back. It was Vidya.
S: Vidyaā¦what are you doing here? Who are these boys and are you drunk?
Vidya in a drunken voice: Noooā¦heheā¦I'm not drunk sillyā¦*her voice softened*ā¦I'm just sadā¦I don't know what to doā¦I feel that I don't have any freedomā¦just feel like a puppet being controlled by everyoneā¦*she held her head*ā¦I don't know what's wrong with meā¦*her voice cheered* but that doesn't matter cause right now I'm having funnnnnnnnnnn! Yayyyyyy! Come onā¦dance with me everyone. *Vidya danced even more with the other boys*.
Sagar grabbed her away from the boys and took her outside.
S: What's wrong with you? What the heck were you doing over there? HUH?
V: Be quietā¦who are you to tell me this?
S: Vidya, you're not in your senses. What's wrong? Tell me.
Sagar's voice softened. He cupped Vidya's face in his hands and made her look up. Vidya looked in Sagar's eyesā¦she saw it again⦠"His eyesā¦they're just so beautifulā¦it's like they're trying to tell me somethingā¦but what?", Vidya thought. She looked away.
S: Okayā¦if you don't want to tell me then don't. Come onā¦I'll take you home.
Sagar took off his jacket and put it over Vidya. He took her hand in his and soon caught a cab to go home. After reaching Vidya's house, he rang the bell. Vidya's mom opened the door. She looked confused. Sagar told her that he'll explain later. Vidya's mom took her in and led her to her room. Sagar left.
In Vidya's room, she kept on repeating, "I'll never experience true love. I'll be like everyone else. Forced to marriage. Forced to love." Her mother heard all this and walked away crying.
About 2 months passed and Vidya's dad was discharged from the hospital.
It was the day of Vidya's Mehendi. All girls were gathered around Vidya teasing her.
Girl: omgā¦your mehendi is so darkā¦looks like jijaji (brother-in-law) loves you a lot.
Vidya smirked in her head and said: I don't believe in all that.
She then walked away and the girls start laughing and saying that Vidya got shy.
Vidya ran up to her bedroom window. She looked up into the sky and closed her eyes. Tears trickled down her cheeks. An image appeared in her mind. It was fuzzy but she could tell it was a boyā¦
