There was an aura of happiness on her face as she almost ran to him. Perhaps she had a major medical breakthrough on the case she was doing on the side. He didn't know or want to know who the patient was or what had happened to him/her. But what he knew that she spent a lot of time researching, studying, carrying on tests as if her very life depending on healing their malady. But it rankled that she had flatly refused to help him with his efforts to obtain his brother's file from Dr. Shashank home and on every alternate occassion, tried to dissuade him from his mission. "Yuvi...Dr.Shashank is a very good man and an even better doctor. I think you are mistaken, he can't be responsible for your brother's condition." She atleast didn't rat him out to Dr. Shashank. Love was such a wonderful weakness. It made people so easy to manipulate. In some respects if not all. "Yuvi...Yuvi...I have to tell you..." "Naina....I have to tell you something too...And I am going first....I have got the file which I wanted to from Dr. Shashank's house. And tomorrow, I will be releasing this to the media...Your Dr.Shashank is finished..." He hesitated for a minute, noticing that Naina's face had gone deathly white. "And one more thing", he continued turning away and not looking at her. "I think there is no need for this charade anymore....I ...I never loved you Naina...You were just a means to get what I needed from Dr.Shashank"
She remained silent for so long, he thought she had left. He expected her to throw a tantrum, cry her heart out, blame him for being a merciless heartbreaker and he had readied answers for them all. But all she said was "I see." walking away. And for the second time in his life, he felt the all happiness and hope drain out of him. He fell to his knees and pounded an angry fist on the non responsive earth. "Dammit...Naina.....Naina....wait" he said getting up hoping she was still within earshot. He made to run after her but his phone rang at that exact moment. It was from the mental asylum and they only called under extenuating circumstances.
He was at the asylum in half an hour, the doctors wouldn't tell him anything except for the fact that he had to get there as soon as he could. They lead him straight to his brother's room. His brother was on sitting on the same bed as he'd been for the past 14 years. As soon as Yuvi entered the room, his brother half raised his right hand...With a lot of effort. "Yu.....Yu.......Yu...veee" he croaked before falling back on the pillow. "Bhaiyaa....bhaiyaa...how how.." Yuvi couldn't keep the tears out of his eyes.."Yes Dr. Yuvraj....he's responding...I know 14 years is a long time...but I think he's finally going to recover...." "Doctor...I ...I can't thank you enough....How...??" "Actually its not just our work....A lot of credit should go to another person...A volunteer here....Very very perseverant....We tried this new treatment after she suggested it...Transcranial Magnetic simulation...and well..it worked!!" "Where is she? And do I get to meet her?" "Well...I believe you meet her everyday...Isn't she your colleague? Dr Naina Mehta? She said she wanted to tell you herself but then we had a phonecall from her saying she wouldn't be able to do it but you ought to know about it as soon as possible....Dr Yuvraj...Are you ok?" "I ...I need to return to Sanjeevani for some important business......I'll be back again...Thanks Doctor....." Yuvi said backing out of the door.
How could he have been so blind? He had been so driven on revenge, he hadn't given a thought to his brother's recovery. And Naina.....God....How was he going to face her? What would he tell her? Sorry? Measly, pitiful words of apology? She'd brought hope back into his life and his brother's and he'd repaid her by cruelling killing hers. "God....Please...let her listen to me once...just once...." he said as he ran up the stairs to the Sanjeevani burns ward where he knew she was on night duty.
The crowd of interns outside the OT made him stop and change his tracks. JP and Tamanna were outside, pacing. And the constant flurry of activity to and fro the room told him that preparation was going on for a major operation. "JP ....what happened?" "Woh...Woh....Flowerji......" "What? " "Naina Flowerji. .." Yuvi blood turned to ice.."What happened to Naina..JP WHAT HAPPENED TO NAINA?" "Some serious accident...she wasn't paying attention to where she was walking and a jeep hit her ..." "I'll be ready to assist with this surgery in 5 minutes." "No need Yuvi...." Sid's voice called out as he emerged from the room, removing his scrubs. "There will be no surgery." "What do you mean? She's hurt bad isn't she...But she'll be fine after the surgery..." "No Yuvi...She won't." Sid's accusing eyes looked at Yuvi and continued, "Nurse Stella has just been here to tell me that Naina slipped into coma 5 minutes ago."
Its bad to hurt someone you love
Even worse knowing you have the wrong stance
But the worst is wanting to make amends
And God refusing you that one chance.
I know everyone is rooting for a Yuvi Naina HEA, so please don't kill me for it...I just thought it ironic and no greater punishment for Yuvi's heartlessness towards her.
