Why we Indians love to forget the pain our more deprived ones are in.

Once again, I dont think its a wise thing to think that those who become defensive are actually loving it. Infact they have become like the bird who is so much wounded, that now is afraid of any touch, even of that of a healer.

Imagine the abused woman (e.g. raped, please pardon me using this example). She becomes so afraid, she feels disgusted even if her father or brother tries to hold her hand!

They dont trust us. And trust me, they hate us. Because everyday they feel, we, God and the whole social system disowned them. No matter what we feel, our faces dont tell what is inside of us.

Many who go ahead to help these children and poor, are often found trying to extract sexual favours (priests and scholars are not discounted here either).

They have certainly got more experience than us about the person who approaches to help.

Look at UAE and Libya, how they turned such parts of their community into respectable and civilized members of their society. We were never so interested. We taught our children and trained ourselves to be indifferent.

As for helping ... this winter me and my wife have arranged 100000 blankets (from friends and business in Europe, where we have lived and live) for these children. We would also go ahead in spring with some plans to arrange facilities for these children to get education. And make action plans (if possible with the government) to keep them at school, at any cost ... and use legitimate coersion techniques is needs be.

I know, we are actually doing nothing (not even near a neglegible percentage) to what is needed. The numbers and size just astonishes me. But, this winter can turn out to be a season of recognision.

Atleast, we can have one fireside in our homes with our children, and encourage them to do or plan something for their bothers and sisters in the street. Who deserve all that tour children are having...

I disagree here. By nature Indians are a charitable lot. Its just that the number of ppl living in abject poverty is simply too overwhelming. Their number multiplies sooner than U can count. Every year there is an new addition to their family without a thought to how they wud B feeding that newborn. By the time the couple gets convinced about folowing birth control methods they already have 5-6 kids. The govt alone cannot do much for them esp in such a "democratic" country.

Its nice to know that u are reaching out. All of us have to do our bit .
For a beginning we can offer help in cash & kind but for more lasting impact we need to educate them & give opportunities for employment- not an easy task in a country that already has a lot of qualified unemployed youth today!

Actuly if there no correct foundation to solve this issue...Indias whole creativity consists in bringing more and more children into the world.... There s no reason to be surprised by Indias poverty.... Every day thousands are born.... Medicine hs helped people to live long, medicine has helped people to die later and later...and some people believe that to be a great blessing from God... the more children yu have, the more blessed you are...In india people still not aware the birth control and they believe lots of stupid ideas...these foolish ideas have to be changed...govt and people should find the root of the problem...I think Karl Marx seems to be right, at least in a certain sense, that religion has been used as an opium to dupe people and dull their intelligence...If we check, theres lots of games behind these poverty...If the people are poor it is easier to force them into slavery..... if people are poor it is easier to give them beliefs, superstitions..... If people are poor they are always afraid of hell and always greedy for heaven....priests /mulla/other religion can dominate thm and the politician can also dominate them because they are so poor...when you are in poverty...people lose intelligence...better aware them, educate them...alert them the situation then can slowly solve these issues😊

Its sad but what are the factors responsible for this? I would like to add one point here that though we see these ppl in such miserable condition they are not all that unhappy as we think ! Surprised? I have noticed many of these street children happily playing & skipping once the begging was over esp at thestreet light corners . May be they have got used to their condition, or perhaps happiness is no ones property. It visits the rich & poor alike.

This is not to say that I approve of such deprave living conditions. I certainly dont ! The govt & some samaritans have been trying hard to rehabilitate these ppl but many of them do not co operate. Its a very complex situation. It has multifactorial reasons . May B we shud discuss someof the reasons for these cond . Both society & individual contribute t this. We cud also discuss ways to help.

thats so true. one way that these people can themselves help in their upliftment is by controlling population and educating their kids which they r very much reluctant to do in spite of govt. trying its best to educate them.

second thing is maintaining simple hygienic life style. another thing which comes to my mind is the money alloted to these people do not reach them bcoz middle men eat up that money. even the quotas and subsidies designed for the upliftment of poor people r used up by a handful of people who really dont need it.

this is so very true. cant just put all the blame on govt. and corruption. there is reluctance from the poor people also towards their own well being. cant just keep giving birth to children like any thing and expect the govt to take responsibility of feeding them.
first of all there r too many family members, then in order to fulfill their basic needs also small small children r made to work instead of going to school even sold.
then i have also seen some women earning money but that money is spent by their husbands in drinking and gambling.
mainly poor people r not educated enough to have knowledge about the welfare measures provided to them and so r easy targets for exploitation by everyone. 😡

yes karuna, corruption is one of the imp factors that comes in the way of their upliftment. PPl donate wholeheartedly but a very lil part of it actually reaches the needy. This has happened time & again whether it was a flood / earthquake / tsunami/drought relief measure. The cash as wll as material ended up in wrong hands. To take care of this the NSS & NCC student unit of our institute went to these places & offered help. Donations poured in as we were now assured of the help reaching the genuinely affected. So I wud say that credibility of the helpers is an imp issue.
