Glimpse of format of Music ka Maha Muqabla

What I am writing about is a new musical reality show to be hosted by Star Plus which will be aired, most probably, from December this year though the exact date has not yet been finalised. The show will feature six teams of four members — a captain and three members each. Our team has Shaan as the captain besides Anwesha and Harshit Saxena, both very talented young singers.

The captains in other teams include big guns of the music industry like Shankar Mahadevan, Himesh Reshamiya, Shreya Ghosal, Mohit Chauhan and Mika. A spectacle that cannot be missed as all the big names of Bollywood appear in one show.

I am looking forward to a new kind of challenge after so many years of SaReGaMaPa on Zee TV. It was a solo competition. Now, I am in a team, which makes it all the more difficult as I will have to strike the right balance with my partners.

Shaan, as we all know, is a great singer and having him as the captain is an honour. Many asked me why I agreed to "play" under anybody else. I see no harm in doing that. In a team there can be only one captain and we witness the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid playing under Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Speaking of cricket, this new reality show — which is yet to be named — will also be played in different stadia as each episode will be shot in a different stadium with spectators watching two teams take on each other.

Unlike other musical competitions on TV, there will be no judges here.

The audience will determine the winner. The two competing teams will also vote for each other and the marks given by the audience will be added to arrive at the final score.

Each team will play six league matches for a place in the semi-final and then the four teams will compete for a place in the final. Isn't that exactly like cricket?

Twenty20 cricket to be more precise. I am eagerly looking forward to this new experience.
