| HELL'S ANGEL: Rajiv Paul as Vajesan in Saarrthi on Star Plus | Star Plus' popular afternoon daily Saarrthi (Star Plus) welcomes a new member next week. Playing Vajesan's role is Rajiv Paul, who was previously seen in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki as Deven.
Saarrthi, which is based on the Mahabharata, revolves around the Goenka family (Mansen and Dharamdayal), and has been steadily rising on the popularity charts.
The drama now plans to add a dose of thrill with the introduction of Vajesan (Rajiv Paul), an out and out negative character who looks unlike any other villain on the small screen.
Mansen (Nawab Shah) uses him against good guy Arjun (Karan Grover). Paul, who plays the baddie, says, "When I was offered a negative role, my initial reaction was not to do it. I had a fear of being typecast. But when I was narrated the character sketch, I knew there was no way I could miss out on this role."
Vajesan enters the family to get engaged to Bhumika (Neha Devi Singh). Later, the engagement breaks and he turns into a hardcore villain. "This guy is downright negative, but when you look at him you think he is an angel," says Paul. He believes that today's bad guys are larger than life.
"Vajesan looks, talks and walks like someone you could meet in your everyday life. He doesn't own fancy cars, nor does he deal with obscene amounts of money."
What excites him is the fact that the role offers him an opportunity to look good and be bad at the same time. "Whenever I have done a role, the audience has always geared up for some thrill. I have something about myself, which keeps the viewers guessing. I'm like the kaali mirch which will spice up the dish," says Paul.
After doing numerous soaps in the past, Paul thinks it is necessary to choose roles that are believable and take the story ahead. "I would rather do one role which has more substance than have my hands full with many things."
Saarrthi, which boasts of one of the biggest casts on television, is geared up for some hardcore drama in the coming weeks with Vajesan's entry.
