Well, I'm a kshatriya and belong to the Pandalam palace and we conduct velis instead of the usual ceremony and according 2 that it's the bride's father who ties the thaali, and not the groom(like in the usual marriages)

Am so glad this serial has retained the flavour of the Rajasthani culture. It was Ektaa who made mangalsutra and sindoor compulsory for all ladies. Later it became like a uniform -- all women have to wear all symbols of marriage regardless of which State they are from, and ignoring local customs and traditions. Bengalis don't have mangalsutra either. We in the south don't wear black mangalsutra (it is gold) and no sindoor for us.

The great thing about this forum and topics like this is that you learn so much about other traditions! :-)
