Randomly getting back to square one...
It's a little odd that you found Suresh Wadkar singing this song odd. Even Mohd. Rafi and Lataji have sung all sorts of songs: frisky, frivolous, comical, playful and so on. Then, why can't SW sing such a song? Gulzar sahab has written this song ('Bidi jalai le' was also penned by him). He (Gulzar) is a thorough pro and getting more liberal with age. So, is it really beneath him (SW) to sing this song? I don't think singing with Kunal or Sunidhi makes him any less respectable either. It shows that he is open-minded and do not judge songs by genre or degree of seriousness.
I hadn't heard this song ('dhai baje') attentively before. It's nice and foot-tapping, ain't it?😛 Not as trashy as 'mind-blowing mahiya' or 'ding dong ding dole'. So. I've no prob.😃
A similar song sung by Suresh Wadkar...

You must have heard this one. It was a popular song.
Raat Ke Dhai Baje is definitely not trashy like Mindblowing Mahiya or any of the random songs with the 'western' touch as they call it. I did not mean to imply that the song was beneath Suresh Wadkar. My only question was that there are so many songs churning out week after week, and we never hear this great voice. Ever. Any now all of a sudden, we hear him in a small portion of a song that already has a strong line of singers. Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Lata, in their prime, they were churning out lots of songs, and in various genres. But we do not here from Suresh Wadkar nowadays at all, so of all the songs, why this one was my question. He's only there for a few lines as well, nothing major. I'm trying to figure out why the MD didn't use his voice to more advantage. Obviously, it does show that Suresh Wadkar is an open-minded singer who welcomes the new era of singers. The lyrics of song, penned by Gulzar, are also quite interesting. His current works are quite interesting, its nice to see such writers evolve with time and accept the changes that future generations bring with them.
And Sapne Mein Milti Hai is a classic. Thanks for sharing. :)
