Interesting discussion going on here!!! 😃

I'm copy pasting a character sketch of Gunjan I'd put on my personal blog - see if you guys agree with me 😊

Gunjan - studious, serious, quiet. Brought up by a dominating sister and aunt - Bui and Nupur are identical twins in that department, so she never really gets a chance to speak. Nupur is protective of her younger sister, almost overly so, so Gunjan grows up timid and shy, never speaking for herself because her fiercely protective sister is always there to do so for her. In spite of the fact that Gunjan is more intelligent than her sister. But is her underconfidence also due to the fact that her older sister, apart from being protective, is also the diva of the small town they live in? Nupur is also beautiful, vivacious, flirtatious, and has a long line of admirers, while Gunjan, quiet, bespectacled Gunjan has none. No wonder her self-esteem is so low, no wonder she hides behind her books. All the adulation, the admiration is reserved for her sister, she is is just little padhaku Gunjan who needs to be sheltered and protected because she is motherless and timid. Add to that, the fact that in a small town, for a girl to be bookish and intelligent is no big deal, is even looked at with some suspicion and disapproval - girls are brought up to be married, and who will marry a chashme vali ladki who is only interested in books? A recipe for low self-esteem. But inspite of that, she has a core of steel, a strength born of her ideals and convictions, her values of what is right and wrong - maybe a little too idealistic in today's world, but that's her. And her innate kindness and gentleness probably hides the fact that she can be very ziddi in her own quiet way.

So Gunjan's studiousness and intelligence is overshadowed by her timidity and low self-confidence because of her dominating and over-protective sister, added to that, the contrast between her sister's many admirers, and her none - which is really what counts in a small town, not the number of school trophies she gets. Her strength comes from the love she has got from her sister and father, but her timidity comes from the fact that she is the baby of the house and has never been allowed to grow up and face any difficult situation on her own. Till a whirlwind called Samrat blows into her life and forces her into them.

Can you really say that you never had a male friend ever before this guy ?? So if the answer is no, then you have not put urself in her shoes properly !! And who said she didnt move on or wasnt hapopy for Samrat ?? She had the strength to end their friendship for his happiness because she knew Sam would never be able to make a deicsion like this !! She moved on and never establish contact with Sam despote his attempts ! She has shed tear only when it she couldnt bear the pain anymore !! As for telling Samrat that Sheena wasnt the right gurl for him, how could she have ? Becuase according to Gunjan. sheena was just insecure about their friendship and Gunjan being the mature gurl she is thought that Sheena was just threatened !!

As for the court case, again Gunjan was in her character. I know she is intelligent and could have come up with a lot of points, but again she is extremely upset and disturbed and something like a court case is something very huge for her !! After all she has led a very protective and sheltered life !! And more then that if you will notice, both Sam's and Gunjan's characters are as such that they are such honest and goodhearted ppl that they think everyone is like that ! Sam new RV was no a ice guy, but even he could never imagine that RV would stoop to something like this !! Mayank on the other hand could figure out what RV was upto because he has always been very street smart !! He had to be to study in a college like Excel and to achive his goals !! Intelligence is not the only thing one needs in a situation like this !! 😊

well naveen..its true that i hav had loads of male friends..so yes, gunjan is different to me in tht sense...

but come to think of it..ther wer many occasions after coming to mumbai when ther had been a 'first time' for her..and yet, she managed to cope up wit all of those 'first times' very easily..and well, ppl might say that 'come on..being in love is diff tha everything else'..yes, it is..but then its really not something HUGE..that u jus cannot deal wit..she wud hav taken longer than most ppl do deal wit it..but eventually she wud hav..and she shud hav..thats life..u cannot jus hold onto one thing and keep on crying abt why u never got it..

she shud shed tears, no doubt..samrat has been her very first friend, best friend and her lover...she is bound to get upset, which is why the initial scenes of her heartbreak touched me a LOT..

but by time..IF they wud hav shown her RJ track..or something else to keep her busy..some assignements..or projects...or atleast something, to show..yet another aspect of her character..and that is, her strength to get over such feelings..now here, v knew already tht sam was gonna love her back..but it doesnt happen in reality..u jus hav to get over tht person..n then it doesnt matter whether u are a small towner or a city girl..whether u hav had male friends before or not..the feelings cannot change..

Mads there is a difference between not able to forget your first love and moving on !! She moved on, she didn't cry over spilt milk ! Look how happy and carefree she was when Sheena invited her to their party at Sam's house and she would have continued to do so even if Sam never loved her back because she understood the importance of his friendship in her life

she shud shed tears, no doubt..samrat has been her very first friend, best friend and her lover...she is bound to get upset, which is why the initial scenes of her heartbreak touched me a LOT..

Like I said earliar she did got over Sam, she proved that when she want to Sheena and Sam's party with a smile and with that carefree attitude !! As for the matter of small town or being from a city or having male friends or not, I didnt say that in that respect, I said that in respect to the court case !! How you are brought up and what sort of environment you had while you were growing affects how you deal with most situations !! I mean even Sam who oozes confidence and has roamed around the world, was shaken up because of the whole jail and the court case thing, so this is Gunjan we are talking about 😊

I agree with mads on this one - yes, Gunjan was shattered when Samrat repeatedly told her she was only his best friend, but the parts I liked her the best in during the entire Sheena phase were all the parts where she decided to carry on being his best friend regardless. - Especially the scene after the play rehearsal where she tells him she loves him and he still doesn't get it - and she goes to the classroom alone and actually has a small smile on her face when she tells herself - see, you told him, and it didn't break you. You'll be okay, so just get on with being his friend now.
And again the part where she tells him to break their friendship during the play - (also loved the way he flatly refused that one 😊 ) - again she was showing her strength then. But they dragged that part a lot as well. The tears were understandable - but there were just too many!

As for the jail track - I don't know if anyone noticed, but she didn't actually cry at all after the first night - she was strong and supportive all through the next few days. BUT what I would have liked would have been for her to also show her ... intelligence, I guess ... more, by being more involved in the discussions about the actual logic of Samrat's and RV's story and how to prove Samrat innocent, while Samrat got on with the realisation process. Agreed Mayank set the ball rolling, but once they stared suspecting RV, she could have contributed there more. Plus it would have been fun to watch Samrat staring at her admiringly ... sigh, this besotted Sam is sooo cute! 😳

Like I said, I like the thinking intelligent Gunjan ... am so glad she does seem to be coming back. And she is really a unique heroine for any serial - haven't seen someone like this before!

u said it diya...

mayb the fact that they DRAGGED it soooo much in a way killed her character for me during those days...and I seriously had no patience to wait n watch till they cud get back on track..ther wer sometimes I absolutely skipped epis..like the one wit uday's bday party..soo pathetic to watch ( wrt SG )..and incidently, I'd decided to quit watching MJHT after SG confessed..coz I was daamn sure they wud not be able to retain the cuteness of this couple after they fell in love..but infact its jus the opposite.. 😍😍

wat i also ABSOLUTELY loved abt her character was that ... late tho she was, she did finally confessed her feelings to sam in music room tht day..he did not hear her is another issue altogether..but the way she spoke abt her feelings..is jus awesome !!!

her dialogue - "tumne mere dil aur dimag mein ek aisi jagah bana li hain..jo koi nahin le sakta.." was sooo heart touching..and soo passionate.. and that in a way was the answer for her 'samrat' mantra I guess.. however, the CVs did drag a LOT..period!

I'll be honest guys, when I said earliar that I know someone like Sam and Gunjan and their lovestory, I was talking about myself ! The reason Gunjan, SaJan and MJHT is so close to my heart its because its the exact story of my life. I'm a carbon copy of Gunjan and my best friend is exactly like Sam. Even though i had male friends before, but i was always this tomboy and a bookworn to them, and my elder sister was the centre of male attention all of her and my life 😊 Then I met my best friend and he changed my life and made me into what I am today !! He got rid of my insecurities, he made me confident and he made me fell in love with myself !! We both have wnet through both the sheena track and huge life incident too ! Its spooky at times, at how much SaJan story reflects my life 😊 That's why I understand Gunjan more then anyone, and can say for a fact that her character wasnt destroyed !! How much you can relate to someone doesnt mean that person should have behaved or acted like you should have. Every person reacts to every situation differently !! 😊😊 It was great discusisng wiith you guys !!! *hugs* This is my last post on this topic
